JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our finance team in a full-time offshore capacity. This role is ideal for a highly organised and detail-oriented bookkeeping professional with extensive experience supporting Australian businesses.

The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping functions, maintain accurate financial records, process payroll, prepare BAS, and support the finance team with reconciliations and reporting. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, requiring excellent communication skills, strong initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive bookkeeper who enjoys working independently, solving problems, and contributing to an efficient finance function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for one or more Australian entities using Xero.

  • Perform daily bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions.

  • Prepare and lodge (or prepare for review) Business Activity Statements (BAS) and ensure GST compliance.

  • Process payroll, including superannuation, PAYG withholding, leave accruals, and payroll reconciliations.

  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and month-end journals.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.

  • Prepare management reports and financial summaries for internal stakeholders.

  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies and bookkeeping issues.

  • Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation.

  • Liaise professionally with internal staff, external accountants, and other stakeholders.

  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes and efficiencies.

  • Provide support with financial reporting, budgeting, and ad hoc finance projects as required.



Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in bookkeeping, including at least 2 years in a senior bookkeeping role.

  • Extensive hands-on experience using Xero to manage end-to-end bookkeeping for Australian businesses.

  • Strong knowledge of Australian bookkeeping principles, including GST, BAS, payroll, superannuation, PAYG, and month-end processes.

  • Demonstrated experience processing end-to-end payroll accurately and maintaining payroll compliance.

  • Excellent reconciliation skills across bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the confidence to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Highly organised with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Proactive, reliable, and capable of working independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative finance team.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and recommend process improvements.

  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets for reporting, reconciliations, and data management.

  • Advanced Excel, financial modelling, and data manipulation skills are highly regarded.

  • Experience supporting multiple entities or group businesses is advantageous.

  • Previous experience working with Australian SMEs, accounting firms, or outsourced finance teams is highly desirable.
