POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Controller. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting operational execution, and partnering closely with project teams. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, EAC accounting, and labor driven financial environments, particularly within staffing focused organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight

  • Supporting accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and month-end close
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures

Project Accounting 

  • Oversee project setup and maintenance in Costpoint, including: 
    • Entering contract modifications
    • Project setup
    • Adding and maintaining project workforce codes
    • Setting up timesheet defaults
  • Manage revenue recognition processes
  • Complete EACs and support project teams with forecasting and variance analysis

Labor & Payroll Partnership

  • Partner closely with Payroll to analyze labor costs
  • Provide wage determination rates and guidance to Payroll
  • Review labor distribution, project costing, and ensure accuracy of timekeeping data

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Support annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes
  • Provide financial analysis, including variance analysis and cost performance insights
  • Support project leadership with data driven decision making and financial planning

 

Accounts Payable & Operational Support

  • Approve purchase requests and ensure alignment with budgets and contract requirements
  • Review and approve employee expense reports
  • Provide proper invoice coding to Accounts Payable to ensure accurate cost allocation

 

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Lead month end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Calculate and provide labor accruals
  • Generate financial reports and dashboards using Cognos
  • Ensure project financials are accurate and aligned with operational performance

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Leverage Deltek Costpoint and Cognos for financial reporting and operational insights
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Collaborate with operations, program managers, and leadership
  • Occasionally support pricing, proposal development, and contract strategy
  • Provide insights into cost structure, profitability, and financial risks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of finance experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Deltek Costpoint and Cognos
  • Strong expertise in: 
    • EAC accounting
    • Revenue recognition
    • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
    • Labor cost analysis in a staffing-driven environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills


 Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
