Job description

One of Pine's portfolio companies is an established, growing technology services business backed by Pine Services Group — a private equity holding company that acquires and operates B2B software and services businesses across approximately 16 portfolio companies. They're looking for a Controller to own the finance and accounting function and serve as a key member of the leadership team.

This is a hands-on leadership role — equal parts oversight and execution. The successful candidate will report to the COO and be responsible for accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and HR administration. This is the right role for a financial leader who wants the ball and is energized by high-growth environments where no two days look the same.

This is a fully remote role reporting to the COO.

What You'll Do
  • Own the finance and accounting function end-to-end — accounting operations, financial close, reconciliations, reporting, cash management, and internal controls. This includes both oversight and hands-on execution.
  • Prepare financial statements and lead audit processes, ensuring accuracy, GAAP compliance, and readiness for external review.
  • Supervise accounting personnel and maintain reliable finance processes and records.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, tax coordination, commissions, and management reporting.
  • Serve as the administrative liaison with the company's PEO for payroll, benefits, onboarding, offboarding, and routine compliance matters.
  • Maintain employee documentation and coordinate approved HR policies and processes.
  • Escalate material financial, employee-relations, legal, and compliance matters to the COO.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across stakeholders, founders, and the broader Pine ecosystem.
  • Serve as a key leadership team member, providing management with financial and HR-related insights and recommendations.

  • What They're Looking For

    Required

    • 7+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong understanding of financial statement preparation, multi-entity consolidation, and GAAP compliance.
    • Proven ability to identify and address data anomalies, ensuring accuracy and consistency in financial reporting.
    • Experience leading or supporting financial audits and meeting tax requirements.
    • Strong communication skills — able to present complex financial information at varying levels of detail to both finance and non-finance audiences.
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • A roll-up-your-sleeves mindset — comfortable moving between strategic and tactical, and energized by building in ambiguous environments.
    • Nice to Have

      • Public accounting experience; CPA strongly preferred.
      • Experience with HR administrative functions, including PEO relationships and compliance coordination.
      • Experience scaling a finance function in a high-growth or PE-backed environment.

    What They Offer

    • Location: Remote
    • Employment Type: Full-Time
    • Benefits: Competitive compensation package including full medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with employer match; and unlimited PTO
