Job description

Hour Consulting is hiring on behalf of our client — a profitable, founder-led Canadian real-estate technology company that sits at #1 in its category, is used by millions of Canadians, and is expanding across the country. It's bootstrapped (built on real revenue rather than venture funding) and deliberately AI-native. This is a senior leadership role reporting straight to the CEO.

The role

We're looking for a Director of Product to help lead the product organization alongside the CEO and senior engineering leadership — owning strategy, roadmap, design, and product execution across consumer, brokerage, and AI-native experiences. You'll drive the deepest user and business problems the company faces with full ownership, multiply the impact of the product, design, and engineering partners already in place, and make product judgments that compound across the company as it expands across Canada.

What you'll own

  • Idea to impact. Take a significant product problem, frame it, design the solution, ship the operating model, and prove the result.

  • The product scorecard. Drive the KPIs that matter — user growth, engagement, retention, monetization, and the quality of the consumer experience.

  • AI in the build, not on the sidelines. Use AI as a first-class, collaborative partner and ship AI-native experiences yourself rather than handing them off.

  • A team that compounds. Lead the product team — sharpen their thinking, raise the bar, and grow the org's depth as it scales, operating as a genuine peer to engineering.

  • Expansion that lands. Shape the product decisions that support geographic expansion and product-market fit across diverse regions and user segments.

  • The cross-functional calls. Make the decisions when product, engineering, design, and operations priorities collide, and escalate the biggest bets.

What we're looking for

Strong candidates show clear evidence of deep, ownership-driven problem-solving and product craft in what they've built. Beyond that, the strongest bring:

  • Senior product leadership experience — you've led product for a significant product area or line at a high-growth tech company, including leading the people on your team, and you're ready to step into a company-level product leadership seat (or already operate at that altitude).

  • A truly AI-native way of working — you use AI daily and engage it as a primary, collaborative partner, having built or shipped AI-powered features with your own hands.

  • Deep product craft — vision-setting, roadmap design, prioritization, user research, hypothesis-driven discovery, and shipping discipline, with taste and judgment visible in the products you've built.

  • Strong business and strategic foundations — grounded in strategy, unit economics, market dynamics, competitive positioning, and org design, with a track record of using those frameworks to help shape and execute commercial product strategy.

  • Commercial judgment and data fluency — you understand revenue, pipeline, and unit economics well enough to help set commercial product strategy, and you pull and interpret data yourself rather than waiting for a dashboard.

  • Systems thinking — upstream causes, downstream effects, and where the leverage actually sits across product, engineering, and the wider business.

  • Experience operating globally across teams and time zones (the team currently spans North America and China).

  • Eligibility to work in Canada without sponsorship, based in — or willing to relocate to — Canada (the role is fully remote nationwide), with excellent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

  • Product leadership inside a Canadian real-estate brokerage, proptech, marketplace, or another transaction-heavy consumer platform.

  • Entrepreneurial roots (highly preferred) — founder, co-founder, or early-stage operator who built a product or business from zero and carried outcome accountability.

  • Experience leading multi-market or geographic expansion product initiatives.

How they hire

Our client hires for what you can build, not just what's on your résumé. Instead of a marathon of panel interviews, shortlisted candidates take on a Builder Challenge — a real problem from the business that you scope, design, prototype, and present (using AI is expected and encouraged). It's a true two-way audition: you get a feel for the actual work and the team before you ever say yes.

The process: a first conversation with Hour Consulting → the Builder Challenge (by invitation) → a working session with senior leadership → references and final discussions.

What's on offer

  • Highly competitive pay, plus performance bonus (calibrated to your experience).

  • A seat shaping the product that powers one of Canada's leading real-estate platforms, in direct partnership with the CEO, senior engineering leadership, and the leadership team.

  • Remote-first across Canada, with generous vacation time.

  • Full health coverage — medical, dental, life, virtual care, and travel.

  • Genuine ownership and autonomy inside a lean, founder-led, AI-native team that actually wants how things are done challenged.
