Alongside our global campuses, we also collaborate with talented contractors and freelancers from all over the world to help us achieve our crazy big goals. While we support flexible, remote-friendly ways of working, for this role we’re focusing on São Paulo, Brazil, so we can best support our teams and keep collaboration flowing.

This role is a 6-month engagement, working full-time hours.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

We're looking for a Senior Performance Art Director to help elevate the quality, relevance and effectiveness of Canva's paid creative in Brazil.

This is not a traditional brand or campaign Art Director role. We're looking for someone who understands advertising, thrives in social-first environments and has a proven ability to create platform-native creative that performs across Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest and other digital channels.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Lead the creative development of performance marketing campaigns from concept through execution.
  • Create engaging static and video advertising for paid social and digital platforms.
  • Develop strong creative hooks, campaign concepts, storyboards, scripts and visual treatments tailored to platform behaviour.
  • Deliver exceptional art direction and design craft across layouts, motion assets, thumbnails, end cards and digital advertising formats.
  • Collaborate closely with copywriters, performance marketers, editors, motion designers, producers and creators to bring ideas to life.
  • Review campaign performance and translate insights into new creative hypotheses, concepts and testing opportunities.
  • Document creative learnings and contribute to building repeatable creative best practices across the team.
  • Help shape Canva's creative presence in Brazil by creating work that feels culturally relevant, platform-native and unmistakably Canva.

You're probably a match if

  • You have valuable experience in advertising, with a strong portfolio showcasing social-first campaigns, performance marketing creative, and exceptional design craft.
  • You've created high-performing paid social campaigns across platforms like Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, or similar, and understand what makes creative stop the scroll and drive results.
  • You're equally comfortable developing creative concepts and bringing them to life—creating hooks, visual directions, storyboards, static ads, and video creative from concept through execution.
  • You have a deep understanding of social-first advertising, audience behaviour, and platform-native creative, and you're excited by testing, learning, and continuously improving your work based on performance insights.
  • You have outstanding visual design skills and are confident creating work across digital, brand, and performance marketing, with a solid understanding of motion design.
  • You're a collaborative creative who enjoys partnering with copywriters, marketers, producers, editors, and other creatives to deliver exceptional work.
  • AI is already part of your creative workflow. You're comfortable using AI tools to explore concepts, generate visual mockups, build storyboards, and accelerate ideation while maintaining a high standard of creative quality.
  • You communicate ideas clearly—both visually and verbally—and you're confident presenting creative work and explaining the thinking behind it.
  • You speak native-level Portuguese and have strong English communication skills, as English is part of our day-to-day collaboration across global teams.
  • Bonus points if you've art-directed creator-led content, photoshoots or film productions, have experience with motion design or video editing, or have worked within creative testing and experimentation frameworks.

You’ll join the Brand Design team within LATAM Marketing, a close-knit crew of creatives passionate about crafting meaningful stories that resonate across the region. We move fast, think boldly, and collaborate deeply to shape Canva’s brand in Brazil and beyond.
