AI / Data Platform Engineer

The Role
We are looking for a hands-on AI / Data Platform Engineer to deliver real outcomes quickly on a 3–6 month contract and are flexible for you to be based out of Sydney (Erskine Park), Brisbane (Northgate) or even fully remote. We already have a strong foundation, including a structured enterprise data warehouse, integrated data across core systems, and an established Power BI environment. What we need now is someone who can take that foundation and turn it into measurable business value through AI, automation and better use of data.

Your responsibilities will include –

• Build 2–3 working AI-enabled use cases within the first 90 days that support our sales and commercial teams
• Design and implement how AI (Azure OpenAI) consumes structured business data
• Establish practical RAG patterns grounded in curated datasets
• Improve and standardise Power BI datasets and semantic models so reporting and AI align
• Expose data via APIs and services and integrate into real workflows
• Embed solutions into day-to-day operations rather than standalone tools
• Develop reusable patterns to enable ongoing delivery by the internal team

About You

Ideally you will display –

• Strong hands-on engineering capability across Python, SQL and APIs, with proven experience delivering AI/LLM solutions in production (Azure OpenAI or similar)
• Experience working with structured data, including data modelling, and strong working knowledge of Power BI datasets and semantic models
• Proven experience within Microsoft-based environments including Azure, Fabric and Power BI
• The ability to take a business problem and rapidly translate it into a working, production-ready solution
• A track record of delivering end-to-end solutions across Fabric, Power BI, Azure OpenAI and integrated systems such as Salesforce within tight timeframes
