In Defense Air, we develop software for advanced defense systems that help protect pilots in the air, crews at sea, and the missions they support — from training and mission preparation to operations and real-world conflict situations. The technology is complex, the responsibility is real, and yes — parts of the domain are probably closer to Q-branch than to standard business software.
We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth and demanding changes, as we deliver advanced technologies and mission critical solutions. Therefore, we are looking for a new Manager to strengthen our software leadership capacity – someone who can lead skilled software engineers, grow a strong team, and help us develop both people and technology and contribute to our overall purpose; securing people through advanced technology.
Your role in our team
As our new Manager, you will lead and develop a software engineering team in Defense Air. You will work closely with architects, project managers, systems engineers, scrum masters, and other leaders to align priorities, manage capacity, and keep expectations realistic.
The team culture is strong, with good support across daily work and informal social activities. We care about the work, and we care about the people doing it.
You can expect:
-
-
- A real leadership role with room to shape your team and influence how software engineering grows in Defense Air
- Skilled colleagues, strong engineering environments, and close collaboration with leaders across Defense and R&D
- Work with systems where engineering quality is not optional
-
How you will make a meaningful contribution
Your key responsibilities include:
-
-
- Lead and develop a software engineering team, including employee development, onboarding, and performance follow-up
- Create clarity on priorities, expectations, and responsibilities while helping the team grow and adapt
- Manage capacity, priorities, and resource allocation in close collaboration with projects and other leaders
- Build trusted working relationships across Defense Air and the wider organization
-
Bring your world class expertise into play
You should have practical experience with people leadership — either as a manager or from a role with clear responsibility for people, priorities, and collaboration.
-
-
- Experience leading people, teams, or technical work
- Understanding of software engineering and what motivates skilled engineers
- A genuine interest in developing people and teams
- Strong collaboration skills, good judgement, and the ability to create clarity when many things are moving at once
-
A background as a software engineer is an advantage, but not a requirement.
As a leader, you understand both people and the engineering environment around them. You respect the technical craft without stepping into technical decisions that belong with the team. You create direction, build trust, and help the team balance quality, delivery, capacity, and long-term responsibility — while keeping the connection to users, mission, and purpose alive.
You value trust, humor, and honest dialogue. You take the work seriously. Yourself, preferably a little less.

You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment.
