Job description

KlearNow.AI is redefining trade compliance and customs brokerage through intelligent automation. We sit at the intersection of AI, logistics, and regulatory compliance, and we're growing fast.

The Role
As the Director of Compliance (blend of Customs Compliance and Account Management), you will manage a remote-first team that supports a network of licensed customs broker partners and ABI users throughout the US and Canada to derive value from the platform.  The scope of this team entails liaising with KlearNow’s customers and customs broker partners to facilitate customs business without conducting customs business by KlearNow directly.  Think training, data / document alignment, timely customs clearance tracking, entry updates / corrections oversight, ACH, CBP notices, and general guidance on topics such as tariff changes, recon, duty drawback, ACE reporting, and data analytics.

Core Responsibilities
  • Act as a knowledge leader in customs compliance as an escalation point for Internal Stakeholders: Operations, Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Product and Engineering.

  • Supervise a team of Broker Partner Success (BPS) and Post-Entry Analysts remotely including coordination of weekend, holiday, and ongoing time zone coverage plans to support business continuity across the US and Canada.

  • Support pre- and post-entry activity including but not limited to, liaising with importers and broker partners for timely and accurate clearance, exception management audits, invoice/statement escalations, CBP/CBSA requests, and special projects such as tariff planning.

  • Manage PSCs/Protests tracking in the US and Corrections/Adjustments in Canada.

  • Ongoing (weekly, biweekly, monthly) meetings with the broker partners and ABI users.

  • Other duties that may arise through the normal course of business.

What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum 10 years in customs brokerage, trade compliance, account management or a combination, ideally for/with enterprise-level customs brokerage operations.

  • Must hold a valid U.S. Customs Broker License issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) or equivalent such as a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation from the NCBFAA.

  • Comfortable with ACE or similar data and other analytics tools to deliver data-driven solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and translate complex concepts between various audiences with varying natural parlance and levels within an organization.

  • Excited to pioneer emerging technologies and integrate them into defensible operations.

  • Self-starter with a keen eye for detail, pride in owning your scope, and proclivity for continuous improvement.

  • Motivated to work in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience managing a large customs brokerage operation and/or customs broker network as an enterprise-level importer.

  • Project management instinct with proactive deliverable tracking, early risk flagging, keeping concurrent-stakeholder initiatives on track, and holding team members accountable.

  • Able to competently navigate formal sources as needed such as CSMS, FRNs, and/or D-Memos.

  • Proven success liaising with CBP, CBSA, PGAs, and/or other government agencies.

  • Background with specialized programs such as AD/CVD, carnets, C-TPAT/PIP/AEO, duty drawback, FTAs, FTZ, goods returned, inbonds, ISA, punitive tariff programs (IEEPA, Sec 232, Sec 301, SIMA, surtax), quota, recon, and/or warehouse entries.

  • Familiar with various modes of transport, northern, and southern border operations.

  • Language skills

Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive salary

  • Equity participation

  • Remote-first work environment

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits

  • Professional development support such as triennial continuing education

KlearNow operates in a dynamic regulatory environment:  IEEPA tariff changes, duty rate volatility, and evolving customs modernization initiatives mean our customers are under constant pressure. The best CSMs here don't just support a software product; they help customers navigate the intersection of technology and trade policy. If that sounds like the kind of work that gets you out of bed in the morning, we want to talk.
