Job description

Armstrong Transport Group (ATG) is looking for a Heavy Haul Capacity Sales Representative to support our Account Managers and specialized operations teams by sourcing and managing heavy haul and oversize transportation capacity. This individual will be responsible for building and maintaining carrier relationships, negotiating rates, and coordinating specialized freight solutions for over-dimensional and overweight shipments. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with heavy haul carriers and a strong understanding of permit, routing, and specialized equipment requirements within the transportation industry.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with heavy haul carriers, customers, agents, and internal team members
  • Source capacity for specialized freight including oversize, overweight, super load, and project-based shipments
  • Research load specifications including dimensions, weight, route restrictions, permits, and escort requirements
  • Ensure carrier compliance with DOT regulations, permitting requirements, and customer-specific service expectations
  • Negotiate pricing and secure competitive carrier solutions for heavy haul freight
  • Coordinate with operations and account management teams to ensure successful execution of specialized shipments
  • Track and communicate shipment updates, delays, and route changes proactively to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate load and carrier information within internal systems
  • Develop new carrier partnerships and expand existing heavy haul carrier networks
  • Monitor market trends and capacity conditions within the specialized transportation industry
  • Update service-level reports and provide analysis on carrier performance and shipment results

Requirements

  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with carriers, customers, and internal teams
  • Previous experience in heavy haul, oversize, specialized, or project freight transportation required
  • Knowledge of heavy haul equipment including RGNs, lowboys, flatbeds, step decks, multi-axle trailers, and specialized configurations
  • Understanding of permitting, routing restrictions, escort requirements, and DOT/FMCSA regulations related to oversize freight
  • Experience negotiating rates and managing carrier relationships in a fast-paced logistics environment
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize multiple projects and issues simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of transportation, logistics, carrier sales, or heavy haul operations experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and transportation management systems (TMS)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing network of heavy haul or specialized carriers
  • Experience handling cross-border or project freight is a plus
  • Knowledge of specialized freight market trends and pricing strategies
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to manage high-touch customer service situations
