Job description

About the Role: The Design Director at BILL leads and manages the day-to-day workload of the design team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality creative assets for marketing campaigns, collateral, emails, event signage, swag, and more. This role collaborates closely with stakeholders across Brand, Copy, Product, and Growth Marketing to interpret creative briefs, define strategic approaches, and oversee execution within brand guidelines. The ideal candidate is both a skilled designer and an experienced people manager, with a strong portfolio showcasing exceptional craft and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Creative Leadership & Team Management
  • Autonomously guide a team of designers to develop high-impact marketing creative from concept to delivery.
  • Provide clear, actionable design feedback to elevate creative outcomes.
  • Mentor and inspire designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Strategic Creative Development
  • Contribute to and refine creative briefs, defining top-level vision and strategic direction.
  • Interpret stakeholder feedback, direct revisions, and ensure final assets meet brand standards.
  • Present creative work professionally to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Vendor & Agency Collaboration
  • Manage relationships with external agencies and vendors, overseeing projects from RFP to final delivery.

Qualifications & Must-Haves:
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Advertising, or a related creative field.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in an in-house team or creative agency.
  • 6+ years of experience managing designers (brand, motion, web).
  • Proven track record of working with external agencies/vendors (RFP to delivery).
Technical & Leadership Skills
  • Expertise in Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Asana, and Slack.
  • Strong knowledge of visual design principles (layout, typography, color, composition).
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team while delivering high-bar creative.

  • Work Hours: 9 AM – 5 PM PT
  • Interview Process:
    1. Initial one-to-one interview.
    2. Panel interview with team members.
  • Team Structure: Directly manage 5 designers, supporting a broader team of 8.
