Requirements:

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the Japan entity, overseeing GL activities, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries in US GAAP and Japan statutory requirements; coordinate with global teams and support statutory filings and audits.
  • Design and implement scalable commercial readiness processes for Japan, including Order-to-Cash, revenue recognition, and revenue-related workflows (distributor/intercompany/inventory accounting) to support future commercialization.
  • Lead implementation and optimization of core finance systems (NetSuite, Concur, Coupa, payroll platforms); develop policies, SOPs, and drive automation and continuous improvement across accounting operations.
  • Oversee Procure-to-Pay and payroll compliance, tax and transfer pricing considerations; manage vendor payments, expenses, payroll with external vendors, and serve as primary contact for auditors and service providers while maintaining SOX readiness and internal controls.

Job description

Revolution Medicines is a late-stage clinical oncology company developing novel targeted therapies for patients with RAS-addicted cancers. The company’s R&D pipeline comprises RAS(ON) inhibitors designed to suppress diverse oncogenic variants of RAS proteins. The company’s RAS(ON) inhibitors daraxonrasib (RMC-6236), a RAS(ON) multi-selective inhibitor; elironrasib (RMC-6291), a RAS(ON) G12C-selective inhibitor; zoldonrasib (RMC-9805), a RAS(ON) G12D-selective inhibitor; and RMC-5127, a RAS(ON) G12V-selective inhibitor, are currently in clinical development. As a new member of the Revolution Medicines team, you will join other outstanding professionals in a tireless commitment to patients with cancers harboring mutations in the RAS signaling pathway.

The Opportunity:

Revolution Medicines is seeking an experienced, strategic, and hands-on accounting leader to build and scale the accounting and finance operations infrastructure in Japan. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance & Operations, Japan, this newly created role will play a critical role in supporting the company’s transition toward future commercial readiness and long-term growth in Japan.

This position will lead core accounting operations, financial systems implementation, process design, internal controls, and statutory compliance, while partnering cross-functionally to establish a scalable and compliant finance environment capable of supporting a commercial-stage organization. The role will also serve as a key business partner across Finance, Commercial, Legal, Supply Chain, HR, and global teams to help prepare the organization for future product launches and increasing operational complexity.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with operational leadership, systems implementation experience, and the ability to build processes and infrastructure in a fast-paced, evolving biotechnology environment. This role is based in Tokyo, Japan.

 Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the Japan entity, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Manage general ledger activities, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries in compliance with US GAAP and Japan statutory requirements.

  • Coordinate closely with global accounting teams to ensure consistency in accounting policies, reporting processes, and close timelines.

  • Support preparation and review of statutory financial statements, regulatory filings, and internal/external audits.

  • Ensure accounting operations are scalable and capable of supporting future commercial activities. 

Commercial Launch Readiness & OTC Process Development

  • Partner cross-functionally to support financial and operational readiness for future commercialization in Japan.

  • Design and implement scalable Order-to-Cash (OTC) processes, including customer invoicing, revenue accounting, collections, cash application, and gross-to-net considerations.

  • Collaborate with Commercial, Supply Chain, Legal, and third-party logistics providers to establish operational and financial workflows supporting product distribution and revenue recognition.

  • Support development of distributor, intercompany, and inventory-related accounting processes.

Systems Implementation & Process Infrastructure

  • Lead implementation and optimization of core finance systems, including NetSuite, Concur, Coupa, payroll platforms, and related financial applications.

  • Partner with IT, global finance, and external consultants to establish integrated and scalable finance infrastructure.

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, SOPs, and process documentation.

  • Drive automation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives across accounting operations.

Procure-to-Pay (PTP), Payroll & Compliance

  • Oversee vendor payment processes, employee expense reimbursement workflows, and procurement-related accounting activities.

  • Ensure effective governance and utilization of Coupa and Concur platforms.

  • Manage payroll operations in collaboration with external payroll vendors, including payroll accounting, reconciliations, and related compliance activities.

  • Partner with external advisors on corporate tax, consumption tax, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and other local compliance matters.

  • Ensure compliance with local statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements.

  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, consultants, financial institutions, and service providers.

Internal Controls & SOX Readiness

  • Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment and accounting governance framework.

  • Support development of scalable internal control and compliance frameworks.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, approval matrices, and delegation of authority requirements.

Required Skills, Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, US CPA, JCPA, or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience in multinational organizations.

  • Hands-on experience implementing and optimizing ERP and finance systems such as NetSuite, Concur, Coupa, or similar platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Japan statutory accounting and reporting requirements.

  • Experience building accounting processes, infrastructure, and internal controls in a scaling organization.

  • Prior experience supporting the build-out of finance operations within a Japan subsidiary of a US-based multinational company.

  • Familiarity with regional payroll accounting, tax compliance, intercompany transactions, and transfer pricing concepts.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functions and global teams.

  • Fluency in English and Japanese required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting pre-commercial or commercial-stage biotechnology or pharmaceutical organizations.

  • Experience with SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.

  • Experience in multi-entity and multi-currency environments.

  • Combination of public accounting and industry experience preferred.
