About the job

Brian Associates is looking for an experienced Accounting Director to support the financial performance of several startup clients within the consumer product market. In collaboration with senior leadership and the Brian Associates team, you will work as a business partner with client leadership teams to support their financial planning and business strategy, as well as ensure that core accounting functions are successfully developed and executed on.

Your Role

  • Support financial planning and business strategy with insightful analysis of key financial performance trends and operating data, and providing timely, clear communication with client leadership teams
  • Oversee execution on all day-to-day, month-end, and year-end accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, bank, payroll, account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for client leadership review and discussion
  • Maintain capitalization tables and oversee equity plan transactions
  • Implement and model best practices in all areas of the accounting and financial process in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee and coordinate with external partners on insurance, audits, tax functions, and due-diligence activities with investors
  • Monitor contractual relations for compatibility with financial projections and financial compliance
  • Guide clients through selection and implementation of enterprise solutions that support the long-term growth of the company, and oversee integrations between systems
  • Mentor junior colleagues through successfully addressing financial and client relationship challenges

 

You Should

  • Have excellent analytical, problem solving, and problem & trend identification skills
  • Be extremely well organized, with attention to accuracy and detail
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment and independence in prioritizing competing deadlines and client needs
  • Effectively communicate and present complex financial concepts for an audience of varying financial understanding
  • Write and develop concise and educational financial reports and presentations to support business decision making
  • Have experience working with a range of industries and businesses on a wide variety of financial and accounting tasks

 

Your Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant accounting and finance experience; 3+ years of audit experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or professional certifications (e.g. CMA or CPA) preferred but not required
  • Significant experience with inventory accounting, preferably within consumer product goods; retail experience is a plus
  • Experience as a consultant or business partner regularly interfacing with senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior accounting team members
  • Experience developing and implementing financial policies, procedures, and controls
  • Experience with Quickbooks and enterprise finance systems, including implementation and maintenance of such systems to meet changing business needs
  • Understanding of equity management and VC funding; 409a valuations a plus
