Job description

About the role:
Jan De Nul Group focuses on complex projects and offers private and public clients a comprehensive, tailor-made package. This approach, combined with our technical expertise and years of experience, ensures that we are among the very best in our field. Do you get energy from coaching a team, keeping the purchasing process from A to Z under control, and personally securing the best deals as well? Then you might be the right candidate for our operational purchasing department.
What you’ll do:

As Teamlead Procurement Mechanical Components, you take the helm of an operational purchasing team of 12 colleagues. You keep everything under control, monitor priorities, workloads, and lead times, and ensure that the entire purchasing process from request to delivery and payment runs smoothly and efficiently.

What makes this position extra interesting is the combination of people management and the commercial aspect. You coach your team and remain actively involved in purchasing critical dossiers yourself. This way, you maintain a feel for day-to-day practice and can quickly make adjustments where necessary. This combination allows you to switch easily between logistical insight, technical understanding, commercial sharpness, while in your coaching role you let your team grow and bring out the best in everyone.

You work with a broad and technical product range such as engine spare parts for ships, valves, pumps, and hydraulic components, including specials and urgent cases, making every day different and ensuring challenges are never lacking.

You are never on your own. You receive support from Procurement Excellence and a team of category buyers, and you join a close-knit and efficient team with short lines, clear follow-up, and a collegial atmosphere.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • You coach and guide a team of administrative staff, purchasers, and senior purchasers in their purchasing activities and hold regular 1-on-1 meetings.
  • You build technical and commercial knowledge within the team and provide training, tailored to development needs.
  • You set up team-specific purchasing strategies in line with the department strategy and guide implementation, including contract negotiations.
  • You ensure the correct application of procedures and actively participate in working groups within Procurement Operational.
  • You set up team-specific KPIs and monitor them, manage and optimize workloads, and improve lead times from request to order, including complaint handling.
  • You check orders (content, item structure, delivery conditions), follow up on critical requests and orders, and lead the biweekly team meetings and coordination sessions.

What you need

  • You have a bachelor’s degree (technical direction is a plus) or an A2 with relevant experience.
  • You already have experience in a similar role and derive energy from coaching and developing people.
  • You have a feel for technical matters and a broad interest in technical topics.
  • Purchasing or sales experience is a plus.
  • You bring structure with clear planning and strong follow-up.
  • You speak fluent Dutch and English.
