Technology roles in software engineering and data are the most broadly accessible given global demand. Finance and accounting professionals with international qualifications are well-positioned, particularly given Guyana's growing financial services sector linked to oil development. Project and program management, particularly for professionals with energy sector or infrastructure exposure, is a natural fit. Customer operations and business services roles for US and Caribbean employers are accessible given the time zone and English fluency combination.
Limited international platform visibility is the most immediate practical barrier. Guyanese professionals are underrepresented on LinkedIn and global job platforms relative to their English proficiency and skills, which means they are less frequently surfaced in global recruiter searches. The second barrier is the standard positioning challenge: accomplishments described in responsibility terms rather than impact terms underperform in international applications regardless of how strong the underlying experience is. Correcting both issues produces better results than increasing application volume without addressing them.
