About Our Family

We're a couple living on a beautiful 45-acre hobby farm property in southern Wisconsin with two large, friendly rescue dogs, two horses, and barn cats. Our home is peaceful, private, and our animals are a big part of everyday life here. Both of us work from home, so you may be sharing the space with us throughout the day. We tend to keep to ourselves and get a lot done, and we're looking for someone who brings that same quiet efficiency to the household.

This past year has been a heavy one for our family in just about every way: health, loss, and the weight of keeping everything running through it all. We've reached a point where we know we need real, consistent support to give us breathing room. We want to be able to focus on our work, our recovery, and eventually, the parts of life we've been putting off — like actually taking a vacation. Having the right person in our corner will make all the difference.

Our home is a large farm with plenty of room to roam and a few friendly animals, and we love it that way. Things aren't always perfectly tidy, life happens in every corner, and no two days look exactly the same. We'd love to find someone who thrives in that kind of environment and someone who takes pride in bringing order and care to a home.

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is:

  • Warm, grounded, and genuinely enjoys variety in their work
  • Flexible and excited about the fact that “no two days look the same”
  • Comfortable moving between household tasks, organization projects, and other responsibilities—from folding laundry and organizing the pantry to filling cat water bowls and sweeping some areas of the barn
  • Naturally organized and proactive, noticing what needs to be done without being asked
  • Works independently with minimal guidance while remaining communicative and flexible when plans change
  • Friendly, personable, comfortable working alongside people in their home, and able to read the room
  • Respectful of others’ schedules, bringing a calm, can-do attitude even on busy or difficult days
  • At ease working on a large rural property with uneven terrain and lots of friendly animals
  • Finds genuine satisfaction in keeping a household running smoothly and takes pride in their work
  • Excited to try something new and grow in the position

Key Responsibilities

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Perform daily resets of the home, including tidying surfaces, managing dishes, and maintaining order between biweekly cleaners visits
  • Create and maintain household organization systems throughout the home
  • Care for indoor plants
  • Support preparation for occasional hosting and holiday events as needed
  • Maintain awareness of the household calendar (both digital and physical) to stay aligned with the family's schedule and upcoming needs
  • Assist with rare meal prep tasks as requested; maintain an organized and tidy kitchen area

Laundry & Linens

  • Fold and organize laundry for two adults
  • Wash, fold, and rotate linens and towels
  • Regularly wash dog bedding
  • Maintain tidy and well-stocked laundry areas

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Perform occasional deep cleaning tasks a few times per year (oven, windows, refrigerator, baseboards)
  • Clean, empty, and scrub humidifiers, air purifiers, and dehumidifiers every few months
  • Maintain mudroom cleanliness with attention to keeping outdoor mess contained
  • Assist with occasional special projects such as pantry organization, closet systems, and seasonal resets

Inventory & Errands

  • Monitor and maintain pantry, household supply, and product inventory; restock and organize items throughout the home on delivery
  • Manage household orders and subscriptions; shop smart to keep stock organized without over-ordering
  • Prepare returns for drop-off (label, pack, organize)
  • Miscellaneous local errands as requested pending candidate’s location and convenience to handle on their way to/from work
  • Retrieve mail and packages from the end of a long driveway and bring to the house
  • Break down and recycle boxes

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Coordinate with existing cleaners, contractors, and service vendors; ensure they arrive as scheduled
  • Research and gather quotes for repairs and maintenance as needed and as trust develops
  • Manage vendor visits for ongoing home systems (water filtration, security gate, etc.)

Outdoor & Barn Support

  • Sweep and maintain the porch and garage area regularly
  • Perform light barn upkeep: clean cat bowls, sweep and tidy as needed
  • Clean and maintain automatic water dispensers in paddocks and stalls (approximately 1x/week)
  • Light seasonal landscaping such as picking up walnuts in the fall or pulling occasional weeds near entryways
