Job description

About the Role

As Finance Analyst, you’ll sit at the center of Daybreak’s finance function, with equal footing in accounting and financial planning. On the accounting side, you’ll own the month-end close process and make sure the numbers leadership, our board, and our investors rely on are accurate, timely, and well supported. On the planning side, you’ll build and maintain the financial models that help us forecast, budget, and decide where to invest. You’ll work directly with the Sr. Director of Finance, who reviews your work and shapes your growth.

Our economics are more interesting than most: revenue comes from school district contracts and insurance reimbursement, and our largest cost is clinician pay. That makes both the accounting and the modeling a real analytical challenge. Getting accruals and revenue recognition right is the foundation, and modeling clinician capacity, utilization, payer mix, and contract economics is how we plan.

You’ll also be a finance partner to the business. Working with leaders across Clinical, Operations, Revenue Cycle, and Go-to-Market, you’ll explain what’s driving revenue and margin and contribute to strategic finance work that shapes how we grow.

This role suits someone who wants both sides of finance: an accountant ready to grow into modeling and FP&A, or an analyst with strong modeling skills and a solid accounting foundation.

What You’ll Do

Build financial models and forecasts

  • Build and maintain Daybreak’s core financial models, including the operating model that links revenue, clinician cost, and margin to the three financial statements
  • Develop driver-based revenue and margin models that capture contract pricing, clinician capacity and utilization, payer mix, and state-level economics
  • Own the annual budget and rolling forecast process in partnership with department leaders and the Sr. Director of Finance
  • Run scenario and sensitivity analyses to show leadership the range of outcomes and what moves them
  • Model new districts, markets, payer contracts, and major investments, with cost-benefit and ROI analysis
  • Support board and investor reporting with accurate, well-documented model outputs
  • Keep models auditable and easy to use: clear structure, documented assumptions, version control, and integrity checks

Own the month-end close

  • Run the close process end to end: maintain the close calendar and checklist, set deadlines with contributors, and deliver on a predictable schedule
  • Prepare journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, deferrals, depreciation and amortization, and recurring and adjusting entries, for review by the Sr. Director of Finance
  • Prepare month-end accruals for clinician compensation, payroll-related costs, and vendor expenses
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, payroll, and clearing accounts, and keep balance sheet reconciliations current and supported
  • Tie subledgers and operational systems (billing and claims data, payroll, expense tools) to the general ledger, and investigate and resolve differences
  • Produce monthly financial statements and a close package, with a clear written explanation of what changed and why
  • Improve the close each month by documenting processes, tightening controls, and automating manual steps

Revenue and receivables accounting

  • Support revenue recognition across district contracts and insurance reimbursement, including contractual adjustments, collectability estimates, and deferred revenue
  • Track AR and AR aging, and reconcile billing-system balances to the GL
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle and Operations to resolve billing, cash application, and payment-posting discrepancies that affect the books

Analysis and business partnering

  • Perform monthly budget-to-actual and variance analysis, highlighting risks and opportunities to plan
  • Partner with department leaders across Clinical, Operations, Revenue Cycle, and Go-to-Market to understand the drivers of revenue, cost, and margin, and turn them into clear recommendations
  • Analyze unit economics, such as cost per session against revenue by state, contract, and payer
  • Build and maintain recurring reports and KPI tracking on revenue, gross margin, and spend
  • Use BI tools and AI-assisted analysis, alongside Excel, to answer questions quickly, and verify numbers against source systems before they reach a decision-maker

Audit, tax, and compliance

  • Prepare schedules and support for annual audits, tax filings, and diligence requests
  • Maintain clear documentation and audit trails
  • Help develop accounting policies and internal controls that scale as we grow

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a degree in finance or a related field with substantial accounting coursework. Candidates without an accounting degree should have significant hands-on accounting experience.
  • 2–4 years of accounting or finance experience, including hands-on responsibility for month-end close activities and exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning
  • Demonstrated financial modeling experience: you’ve built or significantly maintained models such as an operating model, budget, forecast, or driver-based revenue model, and can explain how they work
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analysis
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups, conditional aggregation, and well-structured, auditable models
  • Hands-on experience with a modern GL/accounting system (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Curiosity about the business and comfort partnering with non-finance stakeholders, with clear written and verbal communication that explains results to non-finance colleagues
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities independently in a remote setting

Nice to have

  • CPA or CPA candidacy
  • Experience in FP&A, strategic finance, or business partnering at a startup or high-growth company
  • Experience in healthcare, health tech, revenue cycle or insurance billing, or K-12 contracts
  • Experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606) and AR for variable or third-party payer revenue
  • Experience with planning tools (such as Adaptive) and with dashboarding or BI tools
  • Comfort using AI tools to speed up analysis
  • Experience supporting audits, tax filings, or investor reporting

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $100,000
  • Equity: Strong competitive equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with Daybreak covering a significant share of premiums for employees and dependents
  • Flexible unlimited time off and company holidays
  • Quarterly mental health days
  • Fully remote work from anywhere in the United States
