Investment Reporter (Contractor)

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled Investment Reporter to join our Citywire South Africa editorial team. You’ll cover the fast-moving world of professional investing, delivering breaking news, insightful analysis, and in-depth features that shape the way South Africa’s asset managers, wealth managers, and fund selectors make decisions.

You’ll be at the forefront of reporting on markets, fund performance, and investment trends, helping Citywire maintain its reputation as the go-to source for professional investors. If you thrive on fast-paced journalism, love uncovering exclusive stories, and have a keen eye for detail, this role is for you.

What you’ll be doing:

• Write breaking news stories, analysis, and feature articles on asset management, markets, fund performance, and fund manager profiles.

• Edit and refine content from reporters and external contributors to ensure clarity, accuracy, and impact.

• Identify and develop exclusive stories, scoops, and interviews that resonate with South Africa’s professional investment audience.

• Curate and contribute to Citywire South Africa’s daily and weekly newsletters, delivering timely and engaging content to discretionary fund managers, IFAs, wealth managers, pension funds, and family offices.

• Build and maintain professional sources within the South African asset management and investment industry.

• Identify relevant content from Citywire’s international network to enhance local coverage.

• Collaborate with a small editorial team to develop story ideas, share insights, and maintain high journalistic standards.

• Contribute to social media promotion of content to increase reach and engagement among professional investors.

What we’re looking for:

• Experience: Proven track record as a financial journalist.

• News Sense: Ability to quickly identify impactful stories.

• Writing & Editing: Excellent skills; examples of previous work are essential.

• Industry Knowledge: Understanding of South African asset management, investment products, and financial markets.

• Proactive Approach: Self-starting, able to meet tight deadlines and work independently.

• Communication Skills: Strong ability to develop sources and explain complex financial topics clearly.

• Digital Skills: Experience with social media to promote editorial content is a plus.

• Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
