Job description

Permanent, full-time · Aotearoa Infinite Academy · Includes a teaching component · Start Term 1, 2027

Keep our learners safe and help them use technology, including AI, wisely. Aotearoa Infinite Academy, New Zealand's first online charter school, is a thriving community growing to 2,000 students in 2027. To bring our goals for our learners to life, we're expanding our senior leadership team from two to six Deputy Principals, each leading a strategic portfolio shaped by the Golden Circle. This is a HOW role: in a school where learning happens online, you'll lead digital citizenship, online safety and child protection, and welcome our new Year 9 students.

What you'll lead

please note this is not exhaustive and may be subject to change

  • Digital citizenship and AI. Set our AI-use guidelines and acceptable use agreements.

  • Safeguarding. Be our child protection lead, managing disclosures, procedures and staff training.

  • Online incidents. Respond to any cyberbullying and harmful digital communications, liaise with Netsafe and other partners. Use data to design pro-active programmes in order to reduce and eliminate cyber issues.

  • Privacy and student data. Work with IT Manager to vet platforms and ensure Privacy Act compliance.

  • Learning platforms. From a safeguarding perspective, collaborate with DP Curriculum, to oversee the safe student use of the LMS and learning platforms with IT.

  • Community education. Run online safety evenings for whānau and staff.

  • Year 9 pastoral. Lead transition from contributing schools, orientation, dean management and cohort attendance follow-up and strategies.

Who you are

We want people who are loyal to our vision, passionate about doing things differently, hard-working and unafraid of change and innovation. You'll also bring:

  • A registered teacher with a full practising certificate and leadership experience in pastoral care, digital learning or safeguarding.

  • Current on AI in education, online harm and digital wellbeing, and able to explain them plainly to students, staff and whānau.

  • Trained, or ready to train, in child protection, and sure-footed with confidential and sensitive matters.

  • Comfortable with privacy law and evaluating educational technology.

  • Warm and welcoming with young teens and their families at the start of secondary school.

What we offer

A newly created role in an expanded, collaborative leadership team at a thriving, fast-growing school, with a teaching component that keeps you connected to learners. Like every DP, you'll report to the Principal on your portfolio, line-manage portfolio leaders, contribute to staff PLD and share the duty roster. Competitive remuneration.
