Job description

Permanent, full-time · Aotearoa Infinite Academy · Includes a teaching component · Start Term 1, 2027

Prove that the arts can thrive online, and lead the department that does it. Aotearoa Infinite Academy, New Zealand's first online charter school, is a thriving community growing to 2,000 students in 2027. To bring our goals for our learners to life, we're creating new leadership roles, including a Department Lead for Creative Arts. You'll reimagine how students create, perform, collaborate and share their work in an online school.

What you'll lead

  • Department vision. Set the direction for the creative arts from Year 9 to Year 13, across visual arts, music, drama, dance and design as relevant.

  • Course design. Lead innovative online courses that use digital studios, recording, virtual exhibitions and live performance.

  • Showcasing student work. Create opportunities for students to share their work with whānau and the community, online and in person.

  • Pathways. Connect learning to NCEA, Scholarship, tertiary study and creative industries.

  • Teaching team. Lead, coach and appraise the teachers in your department, and grow a culture of creativity and experimentation.

  • Assessment and achievement. Oversee assessment, moderation and achievement data, including portfolio and performance assessment online.

  • Resourcing. Manage the department budget, creative software and equipment.

Who you are

We want people who are loyal to our vision, passionate about doing things differently, hard-working and unafraid of change and innovation. You'll also bring:

  • A registered teacher with a full practising certificate and specialist expertise in at least one creative arts discipline.

  • Leadership experience, or a strong record of leading programmes, productions or exhibitions.

  • Imagination about how digital tools can open up creative learning, not limit it.

  • Strong understanding of NCEA arts assessment, including portfolios and performance.

  • Energy to build a creative community among students who learn from many places.

What we offer

A newly created leadership role with the freedom to build a department from the ground up at a thriving, fast-growing school. The role includes a teaching component, PLD support and a collaborative leadership network. Competitive remuneration.
