Role Overview

As a Network Operations Resident Engineer, you will provide proactive and reactive technical support services to ensure the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of a large-scale enterprise networking environment. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor, supporting day-to-day network operations, technology transformation initiatives, lifecycle management activities, and strategic projects while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

You will work closely with customer stakeholders, the networking vendor’s support organizations, and engineering resources to deliver operational excellence, minimize operational risk, and support critical business objectives.

This role requires a highly motivated engineer with strong experience supporting enterprise campus networks, large-scale switching environments, wireless technologies, network migrations, and customer-facing operational engagements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical resource supporting network operations and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the customer and the networking vendor teams.
  • Provide day-to-day support for a large enterprise network environment consisting of campus switching, routing, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Develop trusted relationships with customer technical teams and key stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues while coordinating with vendor support and engineering teams.
  • Support technology refreshes, network upgrades, migration initiatives, and infrastructure expansion projects.
  • Analyze network performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop implementation plans, validation procedures, rollback plans, and operational runbooks.
  • Perform software upgrade planning, testing, validation, and deployment support.
  • Coordinate hardware lifecycle activities, including replacement planning and RMA management.
  • Deliver operational reviews and status updates covering network health, project activities, risks, and ongoing initiatives.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and technical mentoring to customer personnel.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement.
  • Define and promote best practices for deployment, operations, and lifecycle management of enterprise networking solutions.


Campus Switching and Routing
  • Support enterprise campus switching and routing infrastructure.
  • Perform configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and operational support activities.
  • Troubleshoot VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, routing, multicast, and high-availability technologies.
  • Support environments utilizing EX Series and QFX Series switching platforms.
  • Support software upgrades, hardware replacements, and infrastructure refresh projects.
  • Assist with implementation and validation of new network services and capabilities.
  • Support large-scale switch deployment, migration, and expansion activities.
  • Provide operational support for EVPN/VXLAN-based architectures where applicable.
  • Juniper Platforms
  • SRX Security Platforms: SRX300 Series, SRX400 Series, and recently released mid-range SRX models.
  • MX Routing Platforms: MX204, MX301, MX304, MX240, and MX480.
  • EX Switching Platforms: EX3400, EX4000 Series, and EX4650.
  • QFX Switching Platforms: QFX5120.


Wireless and AI-Driven Networking
  • Support wireless networking environments utilizing Mist Wireless Assurance.
  • Support AI-driven networking operations through Mist Wired Assurance and Marvis AI.
  • Utilize AI-driven insights, analytics, and service-level data to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Analyze user experience metrics, client performance, and network service indicators.
  • Support monitoring, optimization, and operational adoption of AI-assisted networking capabilities.
  • Assist with wireless modernization and migration initiatives, including transitions from legacy wireless environments to Mist-managed solutions.
  • Recommend improvements that enhance user experience, operational visibility, and network performance.


Network Migration and Transformation
  • Support large-scale network migration and transformation initiatives.
  • Participate in planning, implementation, testing, and validation activities.
  • Support migration of legacy networking environments to modern cloud-managed networking platforms.
  • Validate operational readiness and ensure successful service adoption following implementation activities.
  • Minimize operational risk through structured change management and testing procedures.
  • Assist with deployment and activation of newly installed network infrastructure


Advanced Troubleshooting and Incident Management
  • Lead technical investigations for complex and business-critical incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Coordinate with vendor support and engineering teams to drive issue resolution.
  • Escalate and manage critical technical issues through vendor support processes.
  • Correlate issues across wired, wireless, authentication, routing, security, and application domains.
  • Develop troubleshooting documentation and operational best practices.
  • Manage technical cases through resolution and participate in major incident reviews.


Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation
  • Continuously monitor network health and operational performance.
  • Produce reports describing incidents, service trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures, configuration standards, and network documentation.
  • Create implementation, testing, validation, and rollback plans for operational activities.
  • Participate in service reviews and operational governance meetings.
  • Deliver regular executive and technical status updates to customer stakeholders.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting large-scale enterprise network environments.
  • Strong experience with enterprise switching and routing technologies.
  • Strong operational expertise with EX Series and QFX Series switching platforms.
  • Experience supporting large campus network deployments and operations.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts.
  • Experience with routing protocols including OSPF and BGP.
  • Experience with Mist Wireless Assurance, Mist Wired Assurance, and Marvis AI.
  • Experience supporting large-scale wireless deployments and migration initiatives.
  • Strong troubleshooting, fault isolation, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience supporting large-scale migration, upgrade, and modernization projects.
  • Experience working with networking vendor support and engineering teams.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and serve as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and knowledge transfer skills.
  • Experience supporting production network environments in highly visible enterprise organizations.
  • Must be based and legally authorized to work in the United States.
