The Senior Field Service Engineer for Leica Biosystems is responsible for providing advanced technical expertise, escalation support, and field leadership across Leica Biosystems diagnostic solutions. This role serves as a trusted technical resource to customers and internal teams, driving optimal instrument performance, maximizing customer uptime, and contributing to continuous improvement across the service organization.


This position is part of the Service Organization and will work remotely within the assigned territory. You will be a part of the Field Service Team and report to the Regional Field Service Manager responsible for advanced troubleshooting, escalation support, customer uptime, and technical leadership across related service teams.


In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead advanced troubleshooting, installation, preventative maintenance, repair activities, and technical escalations, applying specialized expertise to resolve complex customer and instrument challenges.
  • Leverage service data, customer feedback, Gemba observations, and root cause analysis to identify recurring issues, implement countermeasures, and improve customer uptime, service quality, and overall field service effectiveness.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for Field Service Engineers, service leadership, technical support, applications, commercial, and product teams by mentoring others, sharing best practices, supporting escalations, and influencing sustainable improvements across the organization.

 The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Associate’s degree with 6+ years of field service, technical, biomedical, military, or related hands-on troubleshooting experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced experience diagnosing and repairing complex medical device, laboratory, scientific, electromechanical, electronic, automation, or instrumentation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges, guide less experienced associates, influence customer outcomes, and communicate effectively across customer and internal stakeholder groups.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • This position requires up to 90% flying and/or driving travel, which includes overnight stays.  Travel will primarily be domestic but may occasionally be international.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to regularly lift, move, slide, raise and/or place up to 50 lbs. unassisted.  Ability to stand, walk (prolonged), and sit; squat and kneel, ascend and descend stairs; reach with hands and arms.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Serving as a senior technical resource, escalation point, lead Field Service Engineer, trainer, or subject matter expert.
  • Supporting advanced diagnostic solutions, laboratory automation, complex instrumentation, or other complex customer environments.
  • Applying continuous improvement methodologies, root cause analysis, PSP, Kaizen, or service analytics to improve customer outcomes and field service performance.

The hourly range for this role is $42.00 - $45.50 per hour. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.


This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
