The Business Development Manager – Specialty Engineered Products will be charged with developing opportunities for highly specified engineered solutions. Employ knowledge of critical technical and market dynamics, driving investment in this space to capitalize on growing demand for specialized, custom-engineered products. Lead the development of the markets assigned by identifying complex applications, technical needs, and specifying engineers for each opportunity. Leverage existing engineering capabilities and utilize 80/20 principles to identify key areas of focus to support the product engineering team in new product development activities tailored to solving complex engineering challenges to provide sustainable profitable growth.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop new business opportunities with current accounts and new customers, specifically focusing on technical buyers and engineering departments.
  • Provide leadership to the sales organization and counsel to the VP in implementing sales organization objectives that appropriately reflect the business unit's technical goals.
  • Analyze market trends and opportunities to identify technological product needs and gaps that can be solved by unique Marmon solutions.
  • Work in close, highly technical collaboration with internal engineering to develop new, highly specified products that meet exacting customer specifications.
  • Work with internal engineering to develop engineering presentations to convey the key unique value of Marmon IEI personnel and products in the marketplace.
  • Collaborate with customers to develop technical solutions and specifications that incorporate the technology and capabilities of Marmon IEI.
  • Facilitate successful implementation of new product introductions by ensuring a well-defined, efficient sales process focused on capturing the technical voice of the customer and translating complex requirements into viable engineered solutions.
  • Analyze the current market position, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Identify gaps and collaborate with leadership to implement strategies that improve market positioning.
  • Improve product marketability and profitability by researching, identifying, and capitalizing on highly specified market opportunities while coordinating new engineered product development.
  • Develop and deploy key account strategies targeting engineering directors and technical decision-makers, supported by market research and individual account growth plans.
  • Provide insights for pricing strategies in coordination with Strategic Market Directors and Product Managers by analyzing technical trends and evaluating market conditions.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for in-person meetings with customer engineering teams and partners.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of business-to-business sales experience required, including at least 5 years of strategic sales experience in a related field.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a sales operations, business planning, or sales support management role.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to develop long-term plans utilizing an 80/20-focused approach.
  • Understanding of differentiation, innovation, engineered solutions, and value proposition-driven selling.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • High level of financial and business acumen.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Outlook, web-based applications, and databases.
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours in a sedentary environment involving computer work, reviewing charts and graphs, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing team members in an environment that may be noisy.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when onsite.
