Job Summary

We are looking for a US Senior Accountant with strong experience in insurance accounting to join our team. The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of US accounting principles, experience handling insurance-related financial transactions, and the ability to manage accounting activities independently.

This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, supporting month-end and year-end close, and preparing financial reports. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with US-based clients and handling sensitive financial information with a high level of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities for US insurance clients.

  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable, including insurance-related receivables and payables.

  • Record and reconcile insurance premiums, commissions, claims, and other insurance-related transactions.

  • Monitor and reconcile premium receivables and agency/company balances.

  • Review and record insurance commissions and commission payable/receivable transactions.

  • Prepare and maintain schedules for prepaid expenses, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.

  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and account schedules.

  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions.

  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for all accounting activities.

  • Assist with audit requirements and provide supporting schedules and documentation.

  • Support tax and compliance-related accounting requirements as needed.

  • Review accounting entries and ensure transactions are properly classified and recorded.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and documentation.

  • Work closely with US-based clients, finance teams, and other stakeholders to address accounting concerns and provide updates.

Insurance Accounting Responsibilities

The role will have a strong focus on insurance-related accounting, including:

  • Premium accounting and reconciliation

  • Commission accounting

  • Insurance receivables and payables

  • Claims-related accounting and reconciliations

  • Policy-related financial transactions

  • Agency/broker accounting

  • Carrier statements and reconciliation

  • Premium deposits and cash application

  • Accrued commissions and expenses

  • Deferred and prepaid insurance-related expenses

  • Review of insurance-related general ledger accounts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • At least 4–6 years of accounting experience, preferably with US accounting exposure.

  • Previous experience in insurance accounting, insurance brokerage, or a related financial services environment is highly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP.

  • Hands-on experience with bank and balance sheet reconciliations, AP/AR, accruals, and month-end close.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and management reports.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Comfortable communicating with US-based clients and stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently.

Preferred Experience

  • Insurance brokerage or agency accounting

  • Property & casualty (P&C) insurance

  • Commercial insurance

  • Insurance premium accounting

  • Commission reconciliation

  • Carrier statement reconciliation

  • Claims accounting

  • Experience with insurance management/accounting systems

  • Experience supporting US-based insurance companies or brokers

Accounting Software

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • QuickBooks Online

  • QuickBooks Desktop

  • NetSuite

  • Sage

  • Xero

  • Applied Epic

  • AMS360

  • Vertafore

  • EZLynx

  • Other insurance agency management/accounting systems
