Job description

 

Job Summary:

The Field Service Engineer calibrates, repairs, and performs maintenance of precision instruments, primarily in field service environments. Responsibilities include working from blueprints, work orders, and written or verbal instructions to perform technical tasks using hand tools, soldering equipment, and testing devices. The role requires regular documentation of service activities, including parts used and time spent, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

This role is based remotely.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and execute tasks based on blueprints, work orders, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools daily, including soldering irons, for assembly and repair work.
  • Calibrate completed instruments using certified master instruments to ensure accuracy.
  • Document service activities, including work performed, parts used, and time spent, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and service reports for internal tracking and customer communication.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Use computer systems to verify inventory availability and close service orders efficiently.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support operational needs.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and be available for frequent travel, including overnight stays up to 60–70% of the time.

Preferred Education & Experience: 

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a technical service or repair role.
  • Formal certifications in electronics, electromechanics, or related technical disciplines.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic testing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on delivering high-quality work.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to team environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently.
  • Background in service technician roles with emphasis on precision, calibration, and quality control.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.

Physical Demands:

  • Manual dexterity required for handling small parts and performing intricate component work.
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods during service and assembly tasks.
  • Capable of lifting and transporting heavy equipment or materials as part of routine duties.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive motions such as tightening screws, soldering, or wiring.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination is essential for precision work and detailed adjustments.
  • Physical stamina necessary for sustained maintenance and repair activity
