Job description

Location: Candidates must reside in Arizona to support the operational and clinical responsibilities of the position.
Schedule: Full-time, 100% Remote

Description:
The Market Medical Director is a key clinical leadership role responsible for partnering with market leadership to build, develop, and manage the clinical team across the assigned geography.

This leader will oversee Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants while also maintaining a small panel of high-risk patients. Care may be delivered in patients’ homes, community settings, dialysis facilities, hospitals, and other appropriate care environments.

The Market Medical Director will help ensure patients are seen in a timely manner, clinical documentation is thorough and accurate, and clinical team members develop the problem-solving skills necessary to prevent unnecessary medical utilization. The overall objective is to improve patient outcomes while helping patients remain healthy and at home whenever possible.

This role will also be responsible for ongoing education and evaluation of market-specific Advanced Practice Provider competencies, including diagnostic skills, application of evidence-based treatment protocols, treatment capabilities, and population health management principles.

What You Will Do:

  • Partner with market leadership to deliver results against key performance indicators, financial objectives, and overall P&L outcomes.
  • Lead and develop Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants across the market.
  • Provide high-intensity provider coaching based on KPI performance and clinical outcomes.
  • Oversee ongoing education and evaluation of APP clinical competencies, including diagnostic skills, evidence-based treatment protocols, treatment capabilities, and population health management.
  • Manage the highest-need and highest-risk patients through short-interval clinical care to stabilize their conditions and transition them to APP panels when appropriate.
  • Engage directly in patient care, including home-based care and other community-based settings.
  • Ensure new patients are seen in a timely manner.
  • Promote thorough and accurate clinical documentation across the clinical team.
  • Coach clinicians to strengthen problem-solving skills and reduce unnecessary medical utilization.
  • Lead discussions with health plans and network provider partners.
  • Manage partner relationships to support growth targets, partner engagement, and clinical and financial outcomes.
  • Support the development and preparation of board materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You Will Be Successful If:

  • You are comfortable leading clinical teams while remaining actively involved in direct patient care.
  • You can coach and develop NPs, Client, and physicians using performance data and clinical outcomes.
  • You use KPIs and data to improve cost, quality, utilization, and patient outcomes.
  • You can effectively manage high-risk and high-need patient populations.
  • You are comfortable working across home-based, outpatient, community, dialysis, and hospital care environments.
  • You can build productive relationships with health plans, network providers, and other healthcare partners.
  • You are comfortable operating in an environment with ambiguity and evolving priorities.
  • You are focused on driving healthcare outcomes rather than volume.

What You Will Bring:

  • Must reside in Arizona.
  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • 5 to 15 years of experience in outpatient or home-based practice.
  • Extensive clinical leadership experience coaching and developing Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, or physicians.
  • Experience utilizing KPIs and data to drive improvements in cost, quality, and clinical outcomes.
  • Ability to engage in direct patient care, including in-home care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Value-based care experience.
  • Fellowship training in Geriatrics.
  • Additional professional degree such as an MPH, MBA, or JD.
  • Experience working in a start-up environment.
