Water & Wastewater Treatment

Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. (Because honestly? There’s nothing that can’t be sorted over a nice cup of tea.) But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. It’s essential, and we simply cannot live without it.We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. And it’s why we do it: because we care. Not only about our water but our little corner of the country and the community we serve. We care for our amazing colleagues who without them none of this would be possible. We care about making sure they reflect the communities we work in too. At Severn Trent we do more, because we care.

Job description

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

We’re dedicated to protecting the environment and enhancing the communities we serve. Our mission goes beyond delivering one of life’s essentials; we’re committed to sustainability and making a positive difference across our region. Join us to be part of something meaningful and lasting that will leave a legacy for generations to come.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want to talk to you.

With that in mind, we’re looking for an Assistant Reservoir Surveyor to join our Dams and Reservoir Team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

As our Assistant Reservoir Surveyor, you'll be based from home, using it as your starting point each day, but you'll rarely be behind a desk for long. This is a predominantly field-based role, with most days spent travelling across the Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy (wales) region, visiting reservoirs and operational sites to carry out inspections, support deformation monitoring and surveying activities, and help ensure our assets remain safe, compliant and performing at their best.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role that involves working in all weather conditions on some of our most impressive assets. You’ll help ensure compliance with the Reservoirs Act 1975 by capturing highly accurate measurements using the latest surveying technology. These measurements inform key decisions about the performance and condition of our structures, helping to safeguard them for generations to come.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, outdoor work and is excited about using cutting-edge technology. While surveying experience is an advantage, it’s not essential. If you bring the right attitude, positivity, curiosity, and a caring approach, we’d love to hear from you. Full training will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity for professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to actively work towards achieving Technical Member (TCInstCES) status with the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, supported by a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as future career progression opportunities including advancement to the role of Reservoir Surveyor.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as the role involves travel and overnight stays across both the Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy regions. While the ideal candidate will be based towards the western area of the Severn Trent region, we welcome applications from candidates across the wider area and would encourage you to apply if you feel you are the right person for the role.

Working in remote locations means you’ll be responsible for your own health and safety, as well as the safety of your colleagues and others who may be affected by your work. Experience of working safely and operating compliantly is therefore essential.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN RETURN

It's not just a job; it's a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. Plus, you'll contribute to the environment and community too. Here are some of our favourites:

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (and the option to buy or sell up to five days per year)
  • Company van
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £1,500 per annum, based on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Dedicated training and development through our ‘Academy’
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Two volunteering days per year
