Job description

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Senior NDT Inspectors with Level II or III expertise in radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, phased-array ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, weld inspection, and code-based flaw disposition.

Selected professionals will interpret authentic NDT data, assess weld and component indications against applicable codes, produce technically rigorous inspection reports, and contribute expert judgement across complex and ambiguous inspection scenarios. No prior AI experience is required; hands-on NDT expertise and defensible accept/reject judgement are the primary qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse ultrasonic and PAUT scan data
  • Identify relevant discontinuities and flaw characteristics
  • Distinguish reportable indications from acceptable conditions
  • Apply practical NDT judgement to complex inspection evidence

MT, PT & Indication Evaluation

  • Review magnetic particle testing indications
  • Evaluate penetrant testing results
  • Assess flaw morphology, relevance, and severity
  • Identify ambiguous indications requiring additional review
  • Document technically defensible inspection conclusions

Code Compliance & Weld Acceptance

  • Apply ASME Section V requirements to inspection scenarios
  • Evaluate findings against applicable weld acceptance criteria
  • Reference API 510, 570, and 653 where relevant
  • Apply API 1104 and AWS D1.1 principles where applicable
  • Make nuanced accept/reject recommendations based on governing requirements

Advanced Inspection & Technical Analysis

  • Evaluate thermographic imagery when required
  • Review remote visual inspection footage
  • Analyse inspection evidence across components and weldments
  • Resolve conflicting or incomplete inspection information
  • Apply expert judgement to unusual or borderline conditions

Reporting & Quality Collaboration

  • Prepare clear and technically accurate inspection reports
  • Document findings, rationale, and recommended actions
  • Explain complex inspection conclusions to varied audiences
  • Collaborate asynchronously with technical peers on difficult cases
  • Contribute feedback to improve inspection and evaluation protocols

Ideal Profile

  • Active ASNT or ISO 9712 NDT Level II or Level III certification in relevant methods
  • Certification may include RT, UT/PAUT, MT, or PT
  • Minimum 8 years of direct NDT inspection and interpretation experience
  • Strong background interpreting radiographs and ultrasonic data
  • Practical experience with phased-array ultrasonic testing
  • Experience evaluating MT and PT indications
  • Deep familiarity with weld defect acceptance criteria
  • Thorough knowledge of ASME Section V
  • Familiarity with ASME Sections VIII and XI
  • Strong working knowledge of API 510, API 570, and API 653
  • Familiarity with API 1104 and AWS D1.1 is highly valuable
  • Experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, or power-sector environments
  • Strong ability to make defensible code-based accept/reject decisions
  • Exceptional written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Experience interpreting thermography or remote visual inspection data is advantageous
  • Ability to work objectively and independently in a remote environment

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • U.S.-based professionals are preferred
  • Compensation: $70–$110/hour
  • Work will involve RT, UT/PAUT, MT, PT, weld evaluation, and code-based inspection analysis
  • Assignments may reference ASME, API, AWS, ASNT, and ISO standards
  • Contributors may review radiographs, ultrasonic scans, inspection imagery, reports, and flaw documentation
  • Strong accept/reject judgement and precise technical reasoning are central to the engagement
  • Thermography and remote visual inspection materials may also form part of selected assignments
  • Project scope, inspection methods, and applicable codes may vary depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential, proprietary, export-controlled, classified, customer-restricted, or otherwise protected inspection data, technical documentation, or materials belonging to any employer, operator, manufacturer, government entity, client, or other third party
