Job description

You desire impactful work.

You’re RGA ready

RGA is a purpose-driven organization working to solve today’s challenges through innovation and collaboration. A Fortune 200 Company and listed among its World’s Most Admired Companies, we’re the only global reinsurance company to focus primarily on life- and health-related solutions. Join our multinational team of intelligent, motivated, and collaborative people, and help us make financial protection accessible to all.

The Software Engineering Manager, Investment Technologies leads one or more agile engineering teams responsible for designing, delivering, operating, and continuously improving technology solutions that support RGA’s global Investments organization and investment accounting operations. This role combines people leadership, delivery accountability, engineering depth, and working knowledge of the investment lifecycle to translate business priorities into secure, scalable, resilient, and auditable technology outcomes.

The manager partners with Product Management, investment professionals, operations, accounting, architecture, data, security, risk, and vendor teams to modernize applications, workflows, APIs, integrations, and data capabilities spanning the front, middle, and back office. The role establishes a high-performing engineering culture, develops talent, manages capacity and financial commitments, and ensures teams deliver in alignment with RGA’s technology strategy, Product Delivery Operating Model, engineering standards, and regulatory obligations.

Principal Duties

  • Engineering Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop software engineers across the full employee lifecycle; set clear expectations, strengthen technical capability, promote inclusion and accountability, and build succession and workforce plans aligned to the product roadmap.
  • Delivery Accountability: Own predictable delivery and operational outcomes for the team’s products and services, balancing business features, regulatory commitments, platform modernization, technical debt, reliability, and production support.
  • Investment Business Partnership: Develop trusted relationships with Investments, Investment Operations, and Investment Accounting leaders; understand business processes and control points across portfolio management, trading, settlement, positions, valuations, performance, risk, cash, securities accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
  • Product and Agile Execution: Partner with Product Management and Product Owners to shape roadmaps, refine outcomes, manage dependencies, plan capacity, and translate investment-business needs into well-defined engineering work within an agile, product-oriented operating model.
  • Architecture and Technical Direction: Partner with solution, enterprise, data, cloud, and security architects to implement target-state architecture and approved patterns across applications, APIs, integration, data, and infrastructure. Ensure teams make sound design decisions without shifting architectural accountability away from designated architecture roles.
  • Software Engineering Excellence: Establish and uphold standards for secure coding, peer review, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, documentation, release management, and maintainability. Remain technically close enough to delivery to evaluate designs, coach engineers, remove impediments, and make informed trade-offs.
  • Cloud, Data, and Integration Delivery: Guide delivery of modern web applications, services, data pipelines, and integrations using cloud-native, serverless or containerized patterns; API-first services; event-driven, streaming, batch, and file-based integration; and modern analytical data platforms.
  • Vendor Ecosystem Management: Oversee engineering around investment platforms and external providers—including order and portfolio management, investment accounting, private markets, market data, custodians, and analytics solutions—and contribute to build-versus-buy-versus-configure decisions, vendor performance, upgrades, and integration strategies.
  • Reliability and Operations: Ensure production services meet expectations for availability, recoverability, performance, monitoring, incident response, problem management, and disaster recovery. Use operational metrics and root-cause analysis to improve service health and reduce recurring issues.
  • Risk, Security, and Controls: Embed security, privacy, segregation of duties, data lineage, traceability, logging, evidence retention, and other control requirements into delivery. Partner with Information Security, Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Finance to support SOX ITGC, SOC 1/2, model governance, and related obligations.
  • Financial and Resource Management: Manage team budget, vendor spend, staffing mix, hiring, capacity, and forecasts; make transparent trade-offs and ensure resources are aligned to the highest-value business outcomes.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Evaluate emerging technologies—including generative AI and agentic engineering tools—and introduce them responsibly to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and investment workflows while adhering to security, data, legal, and model-risk requirements.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate delivery progress, operational health, risks, dependencies, investment needs, and decisions clearly to audiences ranging from engineers and business specialists to senior executives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
