Job description

Description

Summary

The Business Analyst is responsible for bridging business needs with technology delivery across critical business applications and operational processes. Working closely with business stakeholders, technology teams, and external partners, this role analyzes business processes, defines requirements, and supports the delivery of system enhancements, integrations, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Business Analyst operates in a techno-functional capacity, bringing strong business process knowledge—particularly across ERP-supported supply chain, inventory, purchasing, order fulfillment, and distribution workflows—while remaining hands-on with data analysis, reporting, documentation, and day-to-day delivery activities.

This role also supports the effective operation and improvement of business integrations, including Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). The Business Analyst helps ensure data, reporting, and integrations provide reliable information and capabilities that support business decision-making and operational execution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business Process and Requirements

  • Analyze and document end-to-end business processes, with a focus on ERP-driven areas such as supply chain, inventory management, purchasing, order fulfillment, and distribution.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams, translating business needs into clear, actionable business and functional requirements.
  • Facilitate requirements and design discussions, helping align stakeholders on scope, priorities, dependencies, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve controls, increase automation, and strengthen the effective use of business applications.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Use SQL and other analytical tools to query, join, validate, and analyze enterprise data in support of business analysis, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve recurring and ad hoc business reports, dashboards, and analytical outputs in partnership with business stakeholders.
  • Translate business questions into meaningful measures, reporting requirements, and data definitions, helping ensure consistent interpretation of business performance.
  • Perform data discovery and validation to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve data quality, reporting accuracy, and business processes.
  • Present analysis and findings in a concise, practical manner that supports informed business decisions and clearly distinguishes facts, assumptions, and recommendations.

EDI and Business Integration

  • Support the day-to-day management and continuous improvement of EDI processes and other business-to-business integrations within the scope of assigned applications and processes.
  • Partner with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and external providers to investigate EDI exceptions, transaction failures, mapping issues, and process gaps.
  • Document EDI requirements, transaction flows, business rules, and partner-specific needs, and coordinate changes with technical teams and service providers.
  • Monitor recurring integration issues and identify opportunities to improve reliability, visibility, automation, and operational support.

Documentation and Communication

  • Produce clear, well-organized documentation including requirements, process flows, use cases, data definitions, report specifications, integration requirements, and recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with business leaders, operational teams, developers, data teams, and external vendors.
  • Create and maintain supporting artifacts in a clear, structured, and visually understandable format.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and usable by both business and technical teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or similar role supporting business applications.
  • Strong understanding of ERP concepts and business processes; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, Business Central, or similar ERP platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with supply chain, inventory, purchasing, order fulfillment, or distribution processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL skills, with the ability to independently analyze and validate business data.
  • Experience developing or supporting business reporting and analytics using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting EDI or other B2B integrations, including requirements, issue resolution, testing, and coordination with external partners or providers.
  • Demonstrated strength in written communication, documentation quality, and presentation of analytical findings.
  • Comfortable working in a mid-sized, hands-on environment with evolving processes and minimal supervision.
  • Experience in retail, wholesale, or distribution-focused organizations is preferred.
  • General understanding of the software development lifecycle, change management, and implementation practices.
