Accountant – Property Management Company

Job Description

The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial and accounting activities relating to the company’s managed property portfolio, with a particular focus on service charge accounting, supplier payments, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial reporting.

1. Maintain accurate accounting records for all managed properties and ensure transactions are correctly recorded in the accounting system.

2. Manage service charge accounting, including the preparation, recording, and reconciliation of service charge transactions.

3. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.

4. Process supplier invoices, verify supporting documentation, obtain appropriate approvals, and ensure accurate coding to the relevant property and cost category.

5. Prepare and process supplier payment runs in accordance with approved company procedures.

6. Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve any outstanding or unreconciled items.

7. Reconcile supplier accounts, general ledger accounts, service charge accounts, and other relevant balance sheet accounts.

8. Prepare and post accounting entries, including accruals, prepayments, journals, and other month-end adjustments.

9. Assist in the preparation of annual service charge budgets for each managed property.

10. Monitor actual property expenditure against approved budgets and prepare clear variance analysis and supporting explanations.

11. Assist with the preparation of year-end service charge reconciliations, financial schedules, and supporting documentation.

12. Maintain complete and organised financial records and provide supporting documentation to external accountants, auditors, and other professional advisers when required.

13. Support management with cash-flow monitoring, financial analysis, ad hoc reporting, and continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree, diploma, or professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent qualification, or progress toward a professional qualification, is an advantage.
  • Previous accounting experience, preferably within property management, real estate, facilities management, construction, or a related sector.
  • Experience managing accounts across multiple properties or cost centres is an advantage.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with accounting or property management software is desirable.

Employment Type

Part-time

Working hours:

Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm UK (4 hours).
