Job description

Job Title: Junior Software Engineer

Effective Date: October 2026

Division: CEO

Department: Technology Services & Solutions

Reports to: Principal Software Engineer

Direct Reports: No

Location: Remote

Travel: Up to 10%

Position Purpose:

This role is a full-time, exempt position at the Associate level, responsible for using problem solving, computer science knowledge, and programming skills to assist the software team deliver value to its internal stakeholders. We work closely with the market operations team whose focus is the optimization of our battery energy storage system dispatch (charging and discharging) across the Key Capture Energy fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the software engineering director or engineering mentor on assignments furthering the team’s objectives.
  • Assignments can include contributing to production code, developing test applications, or building out test frameworks.
  • Create relevant documentation (reports, presentations, or similar) for tracking project progress or technical review.
  • Build reports, APIs, Webservices, Web Development, ETL Jobs, Database Development or any other required development tasks on KCE’s proprietary software.
  • Develop new features and functionalities in our existing codebase.
  • Populate, Analyze and manipulate databases in MS SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews.
  • All other duties as required.

Work Experience & Requirements:

  • Undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with python and/or C#, .NET, HTML, CSS.
  • Visual Studio Code / Visual Studio, GitHub, Azure.
  • Knowledge of Client-Server concepts & Webservices.
  • General knowledge on Cloud Infrastructure (Virtual Machines, Docker Containers).
  • Exposure to Object Oriented Design principles, data structures and design patterns.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in clean energy and power markets
  • Experience with SQL and large data sets a plus
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
