Job description

Data Engineer

Location: Remote (UK Based)
Team: Product Engineering
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Starting salary £40,000 with scope to increase based on experience and suitability

Help us turn data into better experiences

We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our growing Data Team at Travel Chapter.

As a data-led business, data is at the heart of how we operate and how we deliver great experiences for our staff, clients and property owners. This is an exciting opportunity to join us at a time of significant growth, working on large-scale data migration projects and helping to build and extend the data that powers our products and decision-making.

You’ll play a key role in designing, building, testing and operating data solutions, working closely with colleagues across Technology, Product, Delivery and other areas of the business.

What you'll be doing

  • Working with the Technology team to move and transform data from a range of business sources into our data warehouse.

  • Designing, building and maintaining large-scale data solutions and data pipelines using our ELT tools and technology stack.

  • Writing and maintaining high-quality Python and SQL, with a strong focus on performance, reliability and maintainability.

  • Working with Snowflake, MySQL and MS SQL Server 2019 to develop and optimise data solutions.

  • Collaborating closely with Delivery and Product teams to provide progress updates and ensure projects are delivered on time.

  • Working alongside Senior Developers to improve our development tools, processes, technology stack, application performance and stability.

  • Participating in and supporting code reviews to maintain high development standards.

  • Testing data solutions and applying appropriate testing strategies to ensure quality and accuracy.

  • Troubleshooting production issues through to resolution and identifying ways to prevent them from happening again.

  • Providing out-of-hours support when required, in line with organisational SLAs.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with at least 3 years' commercial experience in Data Engineering who can hit the ground running.

You'll need to have:

  • Strong commercial experience with Python and the ability to write clean, maintainable and effective code.

  • Strong SQL skills and an excellent understanding of databases, data structures and data manipulation.

  • Commercial experience working with data warehouses, ideally including Snowflake.

  • Experience with MySQL and MS SQL Server 2019.

  • A good understanding of data engineering principles and data transformation.

  • An understanding of testing strategies and writing robust, reliable data solutions.

  • Experience working within Agile methodologies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience with ELT tools such as Fivetran, Kleene or dbt.

  • Experience using source code management tools, ideally Git.

  • Previous experience working within the travel industry.

  • Financial or finance-related data experience — this would be particularly valuable as you'll have the opportunity to work on finance-related data and projects.

Why join Travel Chapter?

This is a great opportunity to join a growing, data-led business where your work will have a real impact. You'll be involved in meaningful projects, from large-scale data migrations through to developing the data products and solutions that help our teams, clients and owners have a better experience.

If you're a hands-on Data Engineer with strong Python and SQL skills, enjoy solving complex data problems and want to work on projects with genuine business impact, we'd love to hear from you.
