Job description

The Role

The Director of Distribution & Fulfillment leads the distribution and 3PL partner functions at MaryRuth’s as a leader in the Supply Chain department, reporting directly to the VP of Supply Chain. This role will manage downstream activities and partner closely with Operations, Finance, Retail, and eCommerce teams to ensure successful fulfillment and implement strategies to optimize cost-effectiveness and growth. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt, remote role. The compensation range for this role is $145,000 to $165,000 USD/year.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Network Oversight

  • Lead and oversee the full 3PL partner network, setting performance standards, governance frameworks, and long-term partnership strategy.

  • Develop and execute enterprise distribution strategy across DTC, FBA/FBT, Retail, Marketplace, and International channels.

  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning, operational readiness, and channel expansion initiatives.

  • Direct a team of distribution managers responsible for day-to-day fulfillment operations across all channels.

  • Financial Performance & Cost Optimization

  • Drive COGS improvement and margin expansion through fulfillment cost analysis, carrier contract negotiations, and invoice audit programs.

  • Oversee 3PL performance governance to ensure cost accountability and identify billing discrepancies.

  • Own transportation broker relationships and evaluate network strategies to reduce per-unit spend.

  • Retail & Channel Compliance

  • Oversee retail compliance programs across major national accounts, ensuring adherence to routing guide standards, labeling requirements, MABD compliance, and EDI accuracy.

  • Lead chargeback management strategy in partnership with retail and finance teams, including dispute documentation and revenue recovery.

  • Support operational readiness for new retail account launches and channel expansions.

  • KPIs, Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Own enterprise KPI governance and executive reporting cadence across all fulfillment channels, tracking service levels, cost performance, and capacity risk.

  • Align cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, and Sales to ensure distribution strategy supports broader business goals.

  • Partner with Retail and Finance teams on chargeback visibility, cost performance trends, and channel-level insights to inform executive decision-making.

  • Miscellaneous

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Travel (30-40%) may be required on an as-needed basis with advance notice provided to the employee.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • This role involves sitting most of the time but may also involve moving for brief periods of time.
