Job Title: Windows Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Position Summary
The Windows Infrastructure Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting automation solutions used to manage Windows Server infrastructure across enterprise environments.
This role combines Windows Server engineering, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, scripting, API integration, and cloud/virtualization technologies. The engineer will help replace manual infrastructure processes with standardized, repeatable, and scalable automation.
The ideal candidate is not simply a Windows systems administrator who can write scripts. We are looking for an engineer who understands Windows infrastructure deeply and can translate operational processes into reliable automation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain automation supporting the Windows Server lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, modification, upgrade, remediation, and decommissioning.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible Automation Platform, PowerShell, and Packer.
- Create reusable Ansible roles, Terraform modules, PowerShell modules, APIs, and automation components.
- Automate Windows Server configuration, including operating system settings, domain integration, networking, security controls, enterprise agents, monitoring tools, and application prerequisites.
- Build and maintain standardized Windows Server golden images for VMware, AWS, Azure, and other supported infrastructure platforms.
- Integrate automation with VMware vSphere/VCF, AWS, Azure, Active Directory, DNS/IPAM, CMDB, monitoring platforms, and other enterprise services.
- Consume and integrate REST APIs and platform SDKs to automate infrastructure operations.
- Develop workflows for retrieving and managing infrastructure information such as virtual machines, datacenters, datastores, folders, tags, operating system information, and configuration metadata.
- Support automation associated with Windows Server modernization, operating system upgrades, migrations, and retirement of legacy infrastructure.
- Develop event-driven automation and automated remediation workflows.
- Troubleshoot automation failures across Windows, networking, authentication, APIs, cloud platforms, virtualization platforms, and enterprise integrations.
- Participate in code reviews and establish development standards for infrastructure automation.
- Maintain automation source code using Git-based version control and CI/CD practices.
- Create technical documentation, operational procedures, and reusable automation patterns.
- Identify repetitive, manual, or failure-prone operational processes and develop automated solutions.
- Partner with infrastructure, cloud, networking, security, application, database, and service management teams to deliver end-to-end infrastructure automation.
- Help enable self-service infrastructure capabilities while maintaining enterprise security and governance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Experience administering and engineering Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Experience with configuration management or automation platforms such as Ansible.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform.
- Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and API-based infrastructure integrations.
- Experience with Git and modern source control practices.
- Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, networking, certificates, authentication, and Windows security concepts.
- Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and automation issues.
- Ability to convert manual technical procedures into reliable, reusable automation.
- Ability to work across multiple infrastructure and application teams in a large enterprise environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform / Automation Controller.
- Experience developing Ansible roles and collections for Windows infrastructure.
- Experience with Terraform in enterprise environments.
- Experience using Packer to create standardized Windows Server images.
- Experience with VMware vSphere or VMware Cloud Foundation APIs and automation.
- Experience with AWS infrastructure and Windows Server workloads.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and Windows Server workloads.
- Experience with ServiceNow, CMDB platforms, or enterprise IT service management integrations.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with Python or another general-purpose programming language.
- Experience developing internal APIs, services, or automation platforms.
- Experience with event-driven automation.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise server environments.
