Job Role: Finance Manager - AI-Enabled Operations 

Compensation range: $ 2,500 AUD - $ 3,500 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Our client is an established Australian company specialising in practical solutions for the built environment sector, supporting both residential and commercial projects.

They are highly engaged in leveraging AI across their workflows and are looking for someone who is tech-savvy, adaptable, and shares the same forward-thinking mindset.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Finance Manager to take ownership of key finance operations while embracing AI and technology to make the function more efficient.

This is more than a traditional bookkeeping role. You’ll be responsible for core finance activities including accounts payable, bank reconciliation and month-end close, while also supporting broader accounts receivable and billing functions.

The client uses Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including for multi-currency supplier payments, so experience working with a robust ERP system beyond Xero or QuickBooks is essential.

You will not be responsible for leading the company's broader AI automation program. Instead, we are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in AI and willing to use tools such as Claude and other LLMs to reduce manual work, improve accuracy and work more efficiently.

The ideal candidate combines strong finance fundamentals with a continuous improvement and AI-enabled mindset.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Own day-to-day finance operations, ensuring transactions and financial records are accurate and up to date.
• Manage accounts payable, including supplier invoices, payment processing and multi-currency supplier payments.
• Perform bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Own and support the month-end close process, including reconciliations, adjustments and supporting schedules.
• Manage accounts receivable, invoicing, collections and related billing processes.
• Review financial records and identify discrepancies, gaps or unusual transactions.
• Work within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and maintain accurate ERP records.
• Support broader finance administration and reporting requirements.
• Use AI and LLM tools to improve the speed, accuracy and efficiency of finance tasks.
• Identify repetitive or manual finance processes where AI or automation could reduce unnecessary work.
• Experiment with and adopt appropriate AI tools as part of everyday finance workflows.
• Document processes and contribute ideas for improving finance operations.
• Work collaboratively with the internal team on finance and process improvement initiatives.
• Over time, support additional finance functions, including purchasing and procurement-related processes.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Senior Accountant or similar finance operations role.
• Strong hands-on experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation and month-end close.
• Experience working with an ERP system such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP, NetSuite, Oracle or a similar platform.
• Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is highly preferred, particularly experience handling supplier payments and multi-currency transactions.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and finance processes.
• Experience managing supplier invoices, payments, reconciliations and financial records.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to investigate discrepancies, identify gaps and take ownership of resolving issues.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Genuine interest in AI, LLMs and emerging finance technology.
• Comfortable learning and using tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or similar AI platforms.
• A process-improvement mindset — you naturally look for ways to make finance work more efficient.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently in a remote environment.

The ideal candidate combines strong finance fundamentals with a willingness to embrace AI.

You should be confident managing core finance responsibilities and comfortable getting hands-on with the detail, while also being curious about how AI can help you work faster, reduce repetitive tasks and improve accuracy.

You do not need to be an AI or automation specialist. The broader automation strategy is managed internally. What matters is that you are open to AI, willing to learn, and enthusiastic about using it as part of your day-to-day finance work.

You might already be using tools such as Claude or ChatGPT in your finance workflows, or you may simply have a strong interest in learning how these tools can be applied to finance.

As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will complete a short practical exercise using Claude to demonstrate how they approach finance tasks with AI.

Success in this role means taking ownership of core finance operations while continuously finding practical ways to make the function faster, more accurate and more efficient.

You’ll be measured not only by the accuracy and reliability of your finance work, but also by your ability to identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary manual work through better processes and appropriate use of AI.
