The Geotechnical Field Technician is responsible for supporting geotechnical investigations, field testing, and monitoring activities under the direction of a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. The successful candidate will work primarily in the field, gathering subsurface information, performing testing and inspections, documenting site conditions on infrastructure, transportation, municipal, commercial, and development projects.

This role provides a strong foundation for a career in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, materials testing, and infrastructure consulting.

Your main responsibilities 

• Assist with geotechnical subsurface investigations including borehole drilling, test pits, soil sampling, and groundwater monitoring;
• Coordinate drilling and utility clearance activities;
• Log soil and rock samples under the direction of geotechnical engineers;
• Monitor and document field investigations and site conditions;
• Install and monitor groundwater observation wells and piezometers;
• Collect soil, rock, aggregate, asphalt, and groundwater samples for laboratory testing;
• Preparing factual reports, summaries, data sheets or graphs for interpretation of test results by the supervisor;
• Consistently executing safe work practices and work plans while completing field, laboratory and office work;
• Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts;
• Maintaining records of health and safety information, calibration certificates, equipment manuals and applicable standards;
• Traveling out of town for extended periods of time to remote areas to fulfill field work responsibilities as required;
• Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety rules.

What makes you unique

• Technical Diploma in a field related to Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering;
• 3 to 5 years of geotechnical, materials testing, or construction inspection experience;
• Previous experience with drilling programs, earthworks inspection, or laboratory testing is considered an asset;
• Experience working on transportation, municipal, or infrastructure projects is preferred;
• Understanding of soil classification and basic geotechnical principles;
• Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications;
• Familiarity with field testing procedures and documentation requirements;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
• Lifting and carrying equipment up to 25 kg;
• Walking on uneven terrain and active construction sites;
• Occasional overtime, early morning, evening, and weekend work based on project requirements;
• Must have a valid Ontario G Driver's License;
• Demonstrated interest and sensitivity towards occupational health and safety.
