Overview:

FNF Construction, Inc., a MasTec CE&I company is hiring a Payroll Specialist. This position will Process weekly payroll for field construction personnel in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner while complying with the company’s established pay practices in multiple states and subject to federal wage and hour laws.  This role operates in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment and requires a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:
  • Fast and accurate timecard data entry, including ability to accurately proof pre-entered payroll data and follow-up in a well-documented manner with field personnel on any issues or inconsistencies.  This task requires the ability to compare and contrast approved craft/classifications for each prevailing wage project against pre-entered payroll entries.
  • Produces, distributes, and tracks payroll-related reporting and communications to/from projects and supervisors based on established criteria and deadlines.
  • Assists in the dissemination and tracking of paystubs sent each week via overnight shipping or US Postal Service.
  • Enters employee payroll changes weekly; pay rates, taxes, benefit deductions, and/or direct deposit information.  Ability to thoroughly proof/double-check co-workers’ payroll entries ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • By the end of each week, this role organizes and maintains all payroll files and/or timecards digitally for the pay period, including scanning any employee forms processed during the week and attaching them to the employees’ virtual personnel files, ensuring timely and accurate recordkeeping.
  • As the primary contact for the payroll department, this role consistently provides excellent customer service, either in-person, via email or over the telephone, to employees and/or supervisors with questions or concerns about paychecks.  As part of this fact-gathering process, this role will perform whatever research necessary to affect a resolution and work directly with the Director or Coordinator for any retroactive pay adjustments or late-time entry.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with outside agencies requesting employment verifications or payroll data related to unemployment audits or employee forms.
  • Provides coverage or acts as backup for other payroll personnel as needed.  This role provides lunch-coverage for the front desk receptionist one day a week.
  • After payroll closes, this role ensures Employee Authorization for Deduction (EAD) forms are generated, tracked and returned quickly to assist in the ongoing Certified Payroll Reporting process (CPR) with ADOT.
  • Assists the Director, Coordinator and/or other team members with special projects, as requested or needed.
Qualifications:
  • Certification in Payroll Administration, example: FPC (Fundamentals of Payroll Certification) through the American Payroll Association. Or the willingness to study and obtain certification.
  • Some college coursework to include the subjects of human resources and/or accounting would be helpful.
  • Must be flexible with weekly work schedule, as business needs dictate the need for overtime. Examples would be Monday – Wednesday during the main payroll process, holiday weeks, and/or as company converts to new Payroll system in 2027, as part of parent company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) process.
  • This is not a remote work position. It is fully onsite at Corporate Offices in Tempe, AZ

Work Experience Required

  • 3+ years of experience directly related to payroll coordinator-level responsibilities required in a high-volume, multi-state payroll department.
