Principal Data Scientist 

As a Principal Data Scientist, you will provide strategic leadership for data science within a platform, driving the development of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions that support organizational objectives. You will set direction, build capability, oversee the delivery of scalable data science products, and champion the role of data science across the organization. Combining deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills, you will help turn complex data into meaningful business impact while ensuring the responsible and ethical use of data and AI.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and drive the data science strategy for the platform.
  • Lead the development of advanced analytics, statistical models, machine learning, and AI solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to generate business value through data science and advanced analytics.
  • Translate business challenges into data-driven products and actionable insights.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy scalable data science solutions.
  • Drive innovation by applying modern data science techniques and identifying opportunities to improve data practices.
  • Mentor and develop data scientists while fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Champion best practices in data science, data governance, responsible AI, and data ethics.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Ensure data science products are delivered effectively and supported throughout their lifecycle.

WHO YOU ARE

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field, or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong academic or professional background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modeling, and data analysis.
  • Strong expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and advanced analytics.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, pandas, and NumPy.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methods, including hypothesis testing, regression, clustering, and classification.
  • Experience with SQL and relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark and Hadoop.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading and mentoring data science teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate assumptions, limitations, and quality of data.
  • Experience working in cross-functional and interdisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to align data science initiatives with business objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of responsible AI, data ethics, privacy, and data governance principles.

At Bayer, we are committed to transparency, equal pay for equal work or work of equal value, and objective reward practices in line with EU and local regulations. The minimum monthly gross compensation for this role is 32 640 PLN, with final pay determined based on objective factors such as experience, qualifications, scope of responsibility, and internal alignment.   This position is eligible for variable pay components, such as performance‑based bonuses, awarded in accordance with the applicable employee group, role scope, and compensation structure.
