Job description

Senior Supervising Radiologist - REMOTE

ICON is a global healthcare intelligence and clinical research organisation united by a mission to bring new medicines and treatments to patients faster.

As a values-driven organisation, integrity, collaboration, agility, and inclusion are at the heart of how we work and interact with each other, customers, patients and suppliers.

We are currently seeking a Senior Supervising Radiologist to join our diverse and dynamic Medical & Scientific Affairs team within ICON’s Medical Imaging group. In this role, you will provide senior medical, scientific and radiological expertise to support imaging strategy, clinical trial delivery, independent reader oversight, business development and client engagement across ICON’s global clinical research, outcomes, laboratory and technology services.

What you will be doing

  • Provide senior medical and radiology leadership for sponsor studies, including imaging strategy, protocol design, imaging manuals, read methodology, charters, system requirements, training materials, quality control and independent reviewer processes.

  • Partner with Business Development and operational teams to support new business opportunities, bid defenses, capabilities meetings and client relationship development through expert medical and scientific input.

  • Represent ICON’s medical, scientific and imaging expertise in internal and external discussions, making independent recommendations that support study quality, regulatory readiness and client success.

  • Support responses to requests for proposals and information by providing scientific, medical and technical input that demonstrates ICON’s imaging expertise in clinical trials.

  • Provide real-time consultation to internal teams, sponsors, sites and clients on imaging-related scientific and operational questions, including protocol development, radiology case review, contrast use, imaging analysis, read design, application of read criteria and resolution of imaging-related issues.

  • Build trusted client relationships by advising on imaging strategy, discussing and resolving study-specific imaging issues, and supporting responses to regulatory authority queries related to study design and radiological assessment.

  • Supervise independent read teams, including reader training, ongoing Q&A, performance monitoring, assessment of inter-reader variability, retraining plans and oversight of read quality to support consistent, high-quality image interpretation.

  • Oversee imaging reads and provide medical review and guidance to ensure read outputs are clinically appropriate, scientifically sound and aligned with study requirements.

  • Contribute to ICON’s scientific credibility through participation in industry forums, imaging standardization initiatives, scientific meetings and external presentations.

  • Mentor medical, scientific and operational colleagues to strengthen understanding of imaging endpoints, clinical trial objectives and the role of a CRO in drug development.

  • Lead, motivate and advise project and study teams to deliver high-quality imaging and medical/scientific deliverables for clients.

  • Guide medical and scientific activities to ensure timely, complete and client-focused delivery across assigned studies and programs.

  • Develop capability across medical, scientific and operations teams by translating complex clinical, radiological and drug development concepts into practical study guidance.

Your profile

  • MD with fellowship training in radiology is required; additional training or demonstrated experience supporting clinical research is strongly preferred.

  • Expertise in neuroradiology and body imaging is strongly preferred.

  • Cross-certification in nuclear medicine is preferred.

  • Deep expertise in imaging endpoints for clinical trials, with comprehensive knowledge of drug development, biomarker development, adaptive design, regulatory submission and post-marketing studies.

  • Strong working knowledge of applicable regulatory expectations, including ICH-GCP and relevant regional requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, large-scale projects and influence through scientific credibility, sound judgment and effective stakeholder engagement.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to advise clients, support business development activities and represent ICON in public or scientific forums.

  • Live in the US, UK, or Ireland

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
