Location: Remote (USA)

Start Date: November 18, 2026

Type: Full-time/ exempt

Annual Salary Range: $190,000 - $240,000

  The Director of Human Resources (“HR”) leads HR operations at the Marguerite Casey Foundation (the “Foundation”), managing the full employee lifecycle for a distributed workforce. Reporting directly to the CHRO, this role translates strategic talent vision into compliant processes, scalable programs, and culturally coherent employee experiences. Working alongside the CHRO and HR Generalist, the Director oversees core HR functions while serving as a trusted thought partner and key liaison for managers and staff Foundation-wide. This full-time, remote position is exempt under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

What You Can Expect

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Drive and deliver all aspects of the employee life cycle for a distributed workforce. 

  • Oversee the Foundation’s core HR operations, multi-state compliance, values-aligned compensation and benefits plans, and HR policies.

  • Support people managers through coaching and training programs, strategic workforce planning, and lead managers through change management execution.

  • Partner with the Finance and Operations teams to deliver a best-in-class remote work environment.

  • Collaborate with, manage, and develop the Foundation’s HR Generalist.

  • Grow the employee experience, including continuous improvement of the Foundation’s ongoing performance management programming, formal onboarding and orientation frameworks, recruitment processes, and internal events.

  • Learn the Foundation's internal operations and Talent Philosophy, adapting and optimizing HR systems to support a highly connected distributed workforce.

  • Partner with the CHRO to map, refine, and implement organization design changes, informed by change management best practices. 

  • Work closely with the CHRO and the Foundation’s general counsel to implement best practices to manage organizational risk.


Who Should Apply

You should consider applying if you:

  • Have 8–10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience (nonprofit is a nice-to-have) with a Bachelor's degree, a deep understanding of the full employee lifecycle, and a proven track record of managing and developing direct reports.

  • Have experience translating high-level talent strategy into scalable operational plans, applying project and change management principles to build, refine, and modernize HR processes and software platforms (system implementation experience is a plus).

  • Bring strong technical acumen in compensation, benefits administration, and market benchmarking, complemented by experience managing vendor and consultant relationships.

  • View HR as a strategic arm of an organization and a cultural anchor as well as an operational necessity. 

  • Maintain expert knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, multi-state labor compliance standards, and organizational risk management.

  • Navigate complex workplace conflict and sensitive employee relations matters with confidence, high emotional intelligence, and situational awareness.

  • Act with high integrity and discretion when managing sensitive and confidential information.

  • Appreciate working both independently and collaboratively.

  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a variety of stakeholders. 

  • Are able to prioritize against competing demands for your time and communicate tradeoffs and stay organized to meet deadlines, even in high-paced situations.

Working Conditions
  • Remote Work  - This position is open to candidates nationally and across time zones.

  • Physical Demands of the Job - Constant computer work that may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands. Occasional bending, gripping, pulling, collating, walking, and filing; occasional lifting, (under 20 lbs) which may require the use of carts; constant seeing and hearing. Occasional travel by auto, air, or train.

  • Time Off - The Foundation offers 30 days of Paid-Time-Off annually, 11 paid holidays, and two floating holidays.
