Job description

Title: System Administrator 2
Location: Portland, OR (Remote)
Duration: 12-month Contract (with possible extensions up to 5 years)
Pay Range: $43.12 – $56.02 per hour (pay will vary by candidate location)

The System Administrator will maintain, administer, and support electronic security applications and equipment, including access control systems, video surveillance, and intrusion detection technologies. The role will install and upgrade systems, troubleshoot operational issues, coordinate maintenance and integrations, support security project implementation, and maintain documentation for compliance and reporting requirements.

Position Responsibilities
  • Maintain, administer, and support security system applications and technologies, including access control software, digital and network video recorders, digital cameras, and remote management systems, in accordance with established authorization and system owner requirements.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot security applications, client hardware, system software, and related components to maintain reliable system operation.
  • Execute authorized diagnostic and resolution procedures for system issues during regular and after hours, restoring operational status in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot application, server, host, and communications issues in coordination with network services and other technical personnel.
  • Coordinate with IT personnel and authorized vendors to conduct approved preventive maintenance, performance testing, and system support activities.
  • Perform and coordinate quality assurance activities to verify implementations meet internal standards across projects of varying size and complexity, escalating concerns to project leadership.
  • Support the secure handling, storage, transportation, and physical inventory of security equipment as needed.
  • Assist with integrating video surveillance and intrusion detection systems with access control systems, including analog and network/IP based technologies.
  • Assist in coordinating security system projects ranging from small additions to complete site system implementations.
  • Provide on site troubleshooting and issue resolution, documenting findings, actions taken, and results.
  • Create, maintain, and update system documentation and records supporting operational needs, evidence retention, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with compliance data calls, reporting requirements, and related information gathering and documentation activities.


Position Requirements
Education & Corresponding Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a directly related technical discipline is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required.
  • Experience must include direct work experience in information technology performing system administration
Required Technical Skills & Experience
  • 1 year of specialized experience with the following:
    • Administering access control systems.
    • Microsoft Server and Desktop Operating Systems (current versions).
    • Working knowledge of Honeywell "ProWatch” line of products.
    • Working knowledge of security systems hardware, access control software, and Close Circuit TV (CCTV/Digital Video Recorder (DVR)) systems.
    • Working knowledge of computerized intrusion systems or network-based electronic security and life safety systems.
    • Demonstrated experience in supporting physical security system integration efforts.
    • Working knowledge of IT Service Management software for task management tracking to ensure that work is assigned and updated within the system.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Ability to analyze technical issues and make recommendations to improve future software configuration standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate common service/problem metrics from incident tracking databases and correlating root causes.
  • Strong desktop support/troubleshooting experience of common hardware, software, peripheral devices, and networking equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of project management concepts and methodologies.
