The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

Job Description

At WGU, our mission is centered on helping students achieve life-changing educational and career outcomes. As an Academy Instructor for Humanities & Social Science, you will combine subject-matter expertise, coaching, and virtual instruction to support adult learners as they develop competencies, complete coursework, and progress toward their academic and professional goals. This role will facilitate group-based instruction, targeted virtual learning experiences, study support, and scalable resources with additional one-to-one support when needed. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about student success, skilled in virtual engagement, and committed to providing personalized support that meets learners where they are.

What You'll Do 

  • Provide proactive, relevant, timely, and effective one-to-many virtual instruction to students across assigned courses within the domain, with individualized support as needed. 

  • Develop instructional materials aligned to learning objectives and course competencies for student self-service and virtual group learning experiences. 

  • Develop and maintain expertise across related courses as the domain evolves. 

  • Facilitate engaging one-to-many virtual learning events that support student competency development. 

  • Monitor student progress and use learner data, behaviors, and interactions to identify opportunities for proactive support. 

  • Coach students to achieve personal, academic, and career goals through individualized guidance and encouragement. 

  • Facilitate online student communities that encourage collaboration, engagement, and meaningful faculty interaction. 

  • Collaborate with domain colleagues and program faculty to ensure continuity, quality, and consistency of student support across the domain, including when student needs or course demands shift. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Master's Degree in a related field 

  • 3 years of relevant professional experience including teaching, academic, or professional experience in Humanities, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.  

  • 1 year of experience teaching online. 

  • Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in one or more areas within the Humanities and Social Sciences, with the ability and willingness to develop expertise across related domain content. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Terminal degree and all applicable domain-specific licenses or certifications. 

  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students. 

  • Experience supporting multiple disciplines or courses.  

  • Experience using student performance or assessment data to identify learning needs and develop targeted interventions.

Work Location 

This is a full-time, remote role based in the United States. 

Travel Requirement 

This position requires occasional travel of up to 20%, including required attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year). Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed. Additional travel may be assigned as needed to support business requirements.
