Nutrition Programme Manager - Volunteer Role

Role Purpose 

To oversee the operational delivery of the nutrition programme, provide strategic input and collaboration with colleagues to ensure successful delivery of the programme. To meet regulatory, compliance and reporting requirements. To engage in programme advocacy and build professional partnerships.

Key Responsibilities 

Programme Operations & Caseworker Support 

• Operational guidance to caseworkers across the Nutrition Programme. 

• Ensure as much as possible monthly verified weight height, and MUAC monitoring is regularly arranged and completed. Ensuring there is an updated photos on file for SAM/MAM children (every 2 months). 

• Ensure as much as possible that all children have a calculated SD score for nutrition and a nutritional label – SAM, MAM, at risk, healthy etc. 

• Monitor the Nutrition WhatsApp group, assess queries level of urgency, respond to queries where appropriate, and highlight any complex queries to nutrition team members for prompt and expert guidance. 

• Keep in-country nutrition clinic information up to date and communicate to caseworkers   

MDT Coordination & Clinical Liaison 

• Support and line manage the Nutrition MDT Administrator. 

• Assist with the clinical prioritisation of cases for MDT discussion. 

• Highlight to the nutrition MDT, children who newly require urgent assessment to determine need for referral to local nutrition clinics, food supplementation, or those who may need immediate in‑hospital treatment. 

• Help prioritise cases for MDT review based on clinical urgency and risk. 

• Attend weekly Nutrition MDT, provide operational advice and undertake actions as directed by clinical team 

• Ensure that all children registered are labelled in the system according to need - eg SAM/MAM, NG/PEG feeding, infant, Special diet etc. 

• Ensure MDT outcomes are communicated clearly to caseworkers and implemented promptly. 

• Liaise with in-country medical colleagues to arrange support for urgent cases in need of review. 

• Liaise with in‑country nutrition clinics to coordinate urgent reviews and ongoing support. 

• Identify additional opportunities for in-country support to meet the needs of patients 

• Monitor, identify and refer appropriate new cases to AEI. 

• Routinely refer eligible cases to AEI (5-18 year olds). 

Cross‑Team Collaboration 

• Work collaboratively with caseworkers, MDT colleagues, the aid team, maternal health team, and other CNN teams as required. 

• Create ‘Aid list’ when required of SAM/ MAM cases 

• Oversee specialised aid lists for cases with specific nutrition needs including  

• Baby Formula List  

• Special dietary Requirements (e.g., feeding difficulties, metabolic conditions, food intolerances) 

• Work in partnership with other teams, including other clinical teams, the Aid Team and Maternal Health Team.   

• Work closely with the procurement and aid teams to ensure the right food reaches the right child. 

Team Leadership & Support 

• Provide support to and line manage Nutrition Programme assistants 

• Undertake cross cover duties of team members when required 

• Provide induction and support to new starters   

• Delegate and oversee tasks for Nutrition Programme assistants 

• Update MDT list with outcomes from AEI and other local nutrition services 

• Update MDT list with aid delivery confirmation  

• Update special diet lists with cases identified by MDT 
• Ensure as much as possible that all SAM/MAM children are referred to a nutrition clinic and liaise with CWs to record the sites/dates that these children have attended 

Programme Development & Partnerships 

• Identify and implement efficiencies and QI which can help delivery of the Nutrition programme 

• Contribute to programme development, quality improvement, and identification of opportunities for expanded in‑country support. 

• Support operational processes that enhance the efficiency and safety of the nutrition programme. 

• Work collaboratively with WHO and UNICEF to support the delivery of the Nutrition programme and strengthen nutritional pathways and ensure access to appropriate supplementation. 

• Maintain open communication and positive relationships with partner organisations in Gaza (WHO, UNICEF, AEI, other nutrition clinics). 

Communications & Reporting 

• Respond to ad-hoc requests relating to Nutrition Programme communications, including Communications team requests, newsletter updates and donor reports   

• Regularly contribute to CNN newsletter to share stories and updates from the Nutrition Programme  

• Identify opportunities for academic advocacy to publish programme outputs in the medical literature and present at conferences 

Person Specification 

Essential: 

• MS Office experience including Word, Excel 

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities 

• Excellent attention to detail. 

• Ability to manage a team. 

• Confidence working independently in a fast-paced environment. 

• Passion for humanitarian work and children's rights. 

Desirable:

• Experience working in the charity, humanitarian or healthcare sector. 

• Public health experience 

• Professional Nutrition experience

• Cultural sensitivity - Awareness of the cultural, social and humanitarian context in Gaza. Understanding of Gaza’s healthcare context, nutrition challenges, and the realities faced by families and clinicians. 

• Commitment to safeguarding and ethical communications- Upholds safeguarding principles in all interactions. Adheres to safeguarding requirements and escalates concerns appropriately and promptly. Ensures clinical and programme communications are consistent with ethical and safeguarding standards; ensures communications (eg social media, newsletter updates, donor reports) are accurate, respectful, protective of patient dignity, and aligned with organisational ethics. 

Operating System 

• Windows users must be running Windows 11, fully up to date with the latest security updates  
• Mac users must be running macOS Sonoma or later, fully up to date with the latest security updates 

Office Software  

• Access to Microsoft Word desktop  
• Ability to create, edit, and save standard document formats (e.g. .docx)  

Messaging  

• WhatsApp desktop application installed and operational   
• Active WhatsApp account linked to a mobile number  

General  

• Sufficient hardware to run the above software without performance issues  

• Stable internet connection
