Senior Backend Engineer

Position Title: Senior Backend Engineer. 

Location: Remote-LATAM 

What you will be doing: 

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong JVM expertise and hands-on experience building distributed systems at scale. The ideal candidate has deep experience with Kotlin and Spring Boot, designing reliable APIs and event-driven services, optimizing PostgreSQL workloads, and troubleshooting production systems. 

Current, production-level Kotlin experience is mandatory. Java-only candidates will not qualify.

Required Skills & Experience 

• 7+ years of professional software development experience. 

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the JVM ecosystem.

• Current production experience with Kotlin — mandatory. 

• Strong Java/JVM fundamentals; Java-only experience is not sufficient. 

• 3+ years designing, building, and troubleshooting distributed systems at scale. 

• Experience with AI, claude code, working with agents and orchestration.

• Strong experience with: 

○ Kotlin 

○ Spring Boot 

○ Hibernate/JPA 

○ Liquibase or equivalent migration tools 

○ REST APIs and OpenAPI 

○ PostgreSQL and query-plan analysis 

○ Kafka and event-driven architectures 

○ Redis 

○ Docker 

○ Linux 

○ AWS 

• Strong understanding of automated unit and integration testing. 

• Experience working with CI/CD practices and pipelines. 

• Proven experience with load testing, performance analysis, and optimization, preferably with measurable improvements. 

Nice to have:

• ClickHouse or another columnar analytics store, and change-data-capture pipelines such as PeerDB (very nice to have)

• Familiarity with LLM APIs, token-based pricing, and how AI providers bill.

• Python development 

• Experience working with OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Honeycomb, middleware IO, and other APM tools for analytics and observability 

• Stripe or other payment and invoicing systems. 

• Quartz or similar job scheduling. 

• Open-source contributions we can read. 

Soft Skills:

• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects 

• Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate, diagram and document complex engineering concepts.
