With offices across North America, we combine the personalized service model of a local consultant with the global resources of the world’s leading professional services firm, Marsh McLennan (NYSE: MMC).
A day in the life.
We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on UI/UX leader to shape and elevate the end-to-end experience across our agency technology ecosystem—especially our client portal, a critical channel for client engagement, service delivery, and self-service capabilities. Reporting to our Head of IT Product, you will lead a small, high-impact team of designers and researchers while staying close to the work—setting experience direction, raising design quality, and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver intuitive, accessible, and scalable digital experiences.
This is a player-coach role: you will balance strategy, standards, and stakeholder alignment with active design leadership—guiding discovery, shaping solutions, and stepping into hands-on design work when needed.
Key responsibilities include:
Define and evolve the UI/UX vision and experience strategy for Marsh Agency applications, translating business goals and user needs into clear experience roadmaps and priorities.
Lead and develop a team of 3–5 UI/UX designers and researchers through clear goals, coaching, feedback, and a culture of inclusive collaboration and healthy critique.
Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to embed design early in discovery and delivery, ensuring shared understanding of problems, trade-offs, and desired outcomes.
Establish and maintain experience standards and patterns that scale across multiple products while enabling product teams to move quickly and deliver consistent experiences.
Own and mature the design system (patterns, components, and accessibility guidance) in partnership with Engineering to align design assets with implemented UI components.
Drive human-centered discovery and validation practices, including research planning, usability testing, journey mapping, and insight synthesis to ensure the team is solving the right problems.
Oversee end-to-end UX and UI design—from information architecture and interaction design through high-fidelity UI, prototyping, and design reviews—ensuring quality and consistency across releases.
Champion accessibility and inclusive design practices (e.g., WCAG), ensuring experiences are usable for all audiences and aligned with organizational standards.
Use data and feedback loops (analytics, support insights, user research) to inform design decisions, define experience measures, and continuously improve adoption, efficiency, and satisfaction.
Improve design operations and ways of working (intake, prioritization, critiques, templates, governance) to effectively support a portfolio of applications.
Our future colleague.
We’d love to meet you if your professional track record includes these skills:
8+ years of experience in UI/UX, product design, or digital experience design delivering modern digital products (web and/or responsive applications).
Doctoral Degree in Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, UX Research, UX design or a related field
Strong UX fundamentals: interaction design, information architecture, usability, accessibility, and human-centered design methods.
Demonstrated experience designing for complex B2B experiences with multiple personas, high information density, and workflow-driven journeys (e.g., portals, dashboards, authenticated experiences).
Proven ability to partner effectively with Product and Engineering leaders, influencing prioritization and aligning stakeholders across functions.
Experience building, governing, or significantly contributing to a design system and partnering with Engineering on component alignment and adoption.
Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) and strong design communication skills (storytelling, rationale, decision framing).
Ability to present a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design thinking and shipped outcomes (not just visual design).
These additional qualifications are a plus, but not required to apply:
2+ years of people leadership experience, including coaching, feedback, and performance management.
Experience leading UX research practices in an agile product environment (continuous discovery, iterative testing).
Experience leading or scaling a design function across multiple product teams and priorities.
Familiarity with experience measurement and optimization (e.g., funnel analysis, task success metrics, experimentation/A/B testing).
Experience modernizing legacy user experiences and driving adoption through incremental, measurable improvements.
