As a Principal Engineer I, Data at CareMetx, you will have the opportunity to use your creative problem-solving skills and passion for innovation to help improve healthcare and patients' access to life-changing specialty medications. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and enhance our enterprise data & analytics platform. You will employ your expertise in data architecture, data warehousing, data pipelines, data quality and data governance to enable data-driven decision making within the organization. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance and expertise.
  • Collaborate with architecture, leadership, and stakeholders to design and implement data solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Ensure the data infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and secure to support data analytics and reporting needs.
  • Manage data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration across systems, ensuring adherence to F.H.I.R standards for healthcare interoperability.
  • Monitor data quality and implement data governance practices to maintain high data integrity, emphasizing the enforcement of interoperability culture via robust data governance.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to enable advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives, leveraging interoperable data systems.
  • Champion the adoption of emerging data technologies and best practices, with a focus on enhancing healthcare interoperability through F.H.I.R standards.
  • Identify and implement code refactoring and improvement opportunities, adhering to data engineering best practices and promoting healthcare data standards compliance.
  • Translate high-level data architecture principles into actionable plans and projects, incorporating healthcare interoperability requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address data-related challenges and opportunities, fostering a unified approach to healthcare data exchange and interoperability.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that emphasizes knowledge sharing and continuous learning, particularly in areas related to healthcare data standards and interoperability.
  • Engage actively in systems thinking, considering the impacts of data changes on the organization, with a keen focus on interoperability and compliance with healthcare data regulations.
  • Proactively address data security and compliance requirements, ensuring systems are in line with healthcare industry standards and practices.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, including being present, on time, and prepared for work as scheduled.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with a strong emphasis on healthcare data systems.
  • Strong experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and data integration, with specific expertise in F.H.I.R/HL7 standards for healthcare interoperability.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS Preferred), demonstrating proficiency in leveraging cloud services for scalable and interoperable data solutions.
  • Experience with Data migration and data transform tools preferred (DMS, Glue, Redshift Spectrum, DBT, etc.), with a focus on projects that enhance data interoperability.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (Python and SQL preferred), with the ability to apply these skills in the context of healthcare data.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and data architecture principles, with a specific understanding of how these principles apply to healthcare data interoperability.
  • Experience with Kafka is a plus, especially in scenarios that involve real-time data exchange and processing in healthcare settings.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field, with additional training or certification in healthcare data standards preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the importance of interoperability and data governance in healthcare.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to mentor and guide a team towards achieving excellence in healthcare data engineering and interoperability practices.
  • Proactive problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to identify, address, and prevent issues before they impact critical timelines and business operations, especially in the context of healthcare data exchanges and integrations.

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Experience with event-driven architecture principles, and Apache Kafka  
  • Extensive experience with SQL and working knowledge of various relational and non-relational databases.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of advanced data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing complex projects in agile environments with a commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in high-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Significant and practical experience with test-driven development (TDD).
  • Comprehensive familiarity with a wide array of monitoring and analytics tools for performance measurement and system improvement.
  • Other duties as required.
