What will you do as a VP, Data Centre Facility Manager? 

The VP, Data Centre Facility Manager is accountable for the safe, secure, resilient, and efficient Day 2 operation of GIC Data Centres (DC), Server/Communication Rooms (SCR), and stock rooms globally, establishing the governance framework, operating standards, and controls that keep our physical infrastructure compliant, audit-ready, and operationally resilient.

As GIC undertakes new data centre delivery and migration activity, this role acts as the key operations partner to the DC Project Manager. The DC Project Manager owns overall programme delivery and migration execution, while this role ensures operational requirements, site readiness, commissioning outcomes, handover criteria, capacity planning, support models, and Day 2 sustainability are clearly defined, challenged, and embedded before transition into BAU.

The role also owns facility KPIs/SLAs, end-to-end physical asset lifecycle management, DCIM/CMDB operational discipline, environmental and power management, onsite/dispatch support governance, and vendor performance across the operating estate. It partners closely with DC Facilities, Network & DC Engineering, Security, Network Operations, the DC Project Manager, and external vendors/contractors to deliver standardised, well-governed, and resilient data centre services.

Key Accountabilities

1. Operational Readiness for New Data Centre Delivery – Partner with the DC Project Manager and delivery teams to review designs for operability, resilience, maintainability, and Day 2 supportability; define operational acceptance criteria; validate rack layout, power density, and capacity plans, including AI-era compute readiness; support commissioning and IST governance; own project-to-operations handover requirements.

2. Migration Partnering & Operational Transition – Partner with the DC Project Manager on migration strategy, wave planning, dependency mapping, cutover/rollback criteria, and secure decommissioning; provide operational challenge and readiness input for physical execution, cabling, tagging, and dual-running controls; ensure a reconciled operational view across both estates and a controlled transition into BAU, with additional discipline for regulated workloads.

3. Enabling Modern DC and AI-Ready Operations – Ensure DCIM integrates with automated CMDB for machine-readable asset tracking; plan power, cooling, and capacity governance for high-density and AI-era workloads; embed sustainability, PUE targets, and operational telemetry into ongoing BAU management.

4. Facility Operations Governance & Leadership – Own governance of all DC/SCR facilities; define and enforce SOPs/MOPs/EOPs; govern the onsite/dispatch support model; act as escalation authority; drive continuous improvement.

1. KPI, SLA & Performance Management – Define and report on facility KPIs/SLAs for BAU operations and operational readiness; maintain performance dashboards; lead vendor performance reviews and use data to inform capacity, resilience, and risk decisions.

1. Equipment & Change Management – Set standards for equipment handling and hardware inspections; govern installation/removal cadence and documentation (e.g., rack elevation diagrams) for audit-readiness.

2. Physical Inventory & Asset Lifecycle Management – Own inventory governance and asset lifecycle standards (receipt to disposition); mandate quarterly inventory assessments; oversee RFID/DCIM/CMMS tooling and chain-of-custody documentation.

3. Power & Environmental Management – Govern power-assessment strategy, housekeeping standards, and environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, airflow) to prevent equipment/environmental issues.

4. Security, Access & Compliance – Enforce security protocols safeguarding equipment and data; govern audit readiness, visitor management, and access controls to DC sites and racks.

5. Backup Tape Management – Oversee compliance with tape handling procedures and vendor liaison for secure dispatch/recall; govern monitoring and escalation for the tape storage environment.

6. Vendor & Project Partner Management – Govern maintenance, support, fit-out, commissioning, and migration-logistics vendors against operational requirements, quality, safety, and service standards; partner with the DC Project Manager on project vendor performance where operational readiness or Day 2 supportability is impacted.

7. Governance, Risk & Compliance – Ensure adherence to regulatory frameworks such as MAS-TRM and CSA CCoP; support audits with comprehensive records; govern operational risks across BAU and transition states, including dual-running, cutover readiness, safety, site acceptance, and handover controls, with documented mitigations.

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

• Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• 10–15 years in data centre/critical-facilities operations, including 3–5 years in governance, management, or leadership — ideally in financial services or a mission-critical 24/7 environment.

• Proven experience supporting data centre build, fit-out, commissioning, migration, or transition programmes, with clear accountability for operational readiness, site acceptance, handover, and Day 2 operations in a modern critical-facilities environment.

Technical Expertise: 

• DC/SCR operations governance, including SOP/MOP/EOP development and onsite/dispatch models.

• Operational readiness for new-build and commissioning activities, including design review, fit-out governance, IST participation, rack-layout validation, capacity planning, and project-to-operations handover.

• Migration partnership and operational transition experience, including wave planning review, dependency validation, cabling and cutover readiness, rollback criteria, decommissioning controls, and BAU transition governance.

• High-density/AI-era facility engineering (power, cooling, PUE optimisation).

• Physical asset lifecycle management, inventory reconciliation, and tracking tools (RFID, DCIM, CMMS).

• KPI/SLA definition and vendor performance management.

• Power, environmental, and physical security management (access control, visitor management, backup tapes).

• Audit support and compliance recordkeeping.

• Experience partnering with capital project teams and contractors to ensure operational requirements, acceptance criteria, and Day 2 supportability are embedded into project delivery.

Certifications (Preferred) 

• CDCMP, CDCFOM, or equivalent (CDCP/CDCS).

• Design/build certifications (Uptime Institute ATD/ATS, CDCDP) and/or PMP/PRINCE2.

• Familiarity with ITIL and financial-sector risk frameworks.

• APICS or similar asset-management certification is a plus.
