Job description

Build products. Build teams. Improve engineering. At Terma, we believe engineering leadership is about more than delivering software. Our managers lead product teams responsible for mission-critical software used in complex defense systems. At the same time, they help shape how engineering works across the entire organization. If you’re someone who naturally improves the systems around you – not because you’re asked to, but because you can’t help yourself – then we need YOU!

We are entering a period of large growth and exciting transformation as we develop advanced technologies for the defense and aerospace industry. Our software enables situational awareness and decision-making across land, sea, and air. To support this journey, we are seeking a (Senior) Manager to lead one of our engineering teams in Defense, Maritime – and help fulfill our purpose: securing people through advanced technology.

Your role in our team

You will lead one of our engineering teams responsible for a core product within our Defense, Maritime organization. Your primary responsibility is to build a healthy, high-performing team that consistently delivers value to our customers.

Beyond your own team, you will become a steward of one or more capabilities within our Engineering Platform – the operating system through which our engineering organization continuously improves itself.

Unlike traditional enablement organizations, our Engineering Platform is not a separate team. It is a shared responsibility across our engineering leadership. Every manager owns both a delivery organization and an organizational capability, helping improve engineering for everyone while remaining deeply connected to day-to-day product development.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

As a manager, your key responsibilities include:

    • Lead, coach and develop a software engineering team working on one of our core products.
    • Create an environment where engineers can do their best work.
    • Work closely with Product Management, Systems Engineering and technical leaders to deliver customer value.
    • Build a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
    • Support hiring, onboarding and career development of engineers.

In addition, you will contribute to the Engineering Platform by owning and evolving one or more organizational capabilities. One example could be Developer Experience and Engineering Effectiveness, where you would work to understand and remove friction from the daily work of engineers across the organization. This is not about owning a central DX team – it is about improving engineering while remaining an active engineering leader yourself.

Bring your world-class expertise into play

You are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level. Danish is an advantage but not a requirement. Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:

    • Degree in software engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or equivalent defense experience
    • Has experience leading software engineering teams.
    • Has built high-performing teams through coaching, trust and accountability.
    • Naturally identifies opportunities for improvement and acts on them.
    • Has a strong sense of ownership and follows through.
    • Understands what makes engineers productive and engaged.
    • Can influence peers without relying on formal authority.
    • Enjoys collaborating across teams to improve how engineering works.
    • Balances pragmatism with a desire for continuous improvement.

We would be especially excited if you have:

    • Improved developer workflows, CI/CD, engineering tooling or onboarding.
    • Introduced engineering metrics that drove meaningful improvements.
    • Reduced friction across multiple engineering teams.
    • Built reusable engineering practices that others adopted voluntarily.
    • Led organizational improvements beyond your own team’s boundaries.
    • Helped scale an engineering organization through better ways of working.

How we define success

Success in this role is not measured only by what your own team delivers. You will also be successful if engineers across the organization find it easier to build, test, deploy and collaborate because of the improvements you have helped create. Our goal is simple: every quarter, engineering should become a little easier, a little faster and a little better than the quarter before. If that mission excites you, we would love to hear from you.

We arean international company representing world-class expertise, delivering complex and high-tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment.

When joining Terma, we promise that you will experience: Great people, challenging tasks, world-class expertise, and meaningful contribution in your daily work.
