Job description

About Northbeam

Northbeam is building the world's most advanced marketing intelligence platform, providing top eCommerce brands a unified view of their business data through powerful attribution modeling and customizable dashboards. Our technology helps customers accurately track ad spend, understand the full customer journey, and drive profitable growth. Machine learning has been at the heart of Northbeam since day one: our full suite of measurement, spanning multi-touch attribution, MMM+, and incrementality, is built on it, along with laser-accurate first-party data. Now we're taking that foundation further, using AI to help brands operationalize their data and turn Northbeam insights into automated decisions.

We're experiencing rapid growth, have strong product-market fit, and are looking for the right people to help us scale. This is a rare chance to make a meaningful impact at a fast-moving, high-growth company. At Northbeam, you'll join a team of driven, collaborative, and talented individuals who value personal growth and excellence. We'd love for you to be part of our journey.

We're a remote-friendly company with physical offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

About the Role

We think about our product more broadly than most: Northbeam isn't only a web app. It's our data and our recommendations, delivered wherever our customers already work. Sometimes that's our platform. Sometimes it's an alert that lands in their inbox and shapes their day. Sometimes it's our data flowing into their own systems, or back into the ad platforms to make those platforms smarter. All of that is Northbeam, and all of it has to be designed.

As Principal Product Designer, you'll own that experience end to end. You'll shape platform-level structure — navigation, UX paradigms, how a marketer moves through dense data without drowning in it — and design individual features from concept to execution. You'll work directly with our eCommerce customers, and alongside product, data science and engineering to ship.

This is a hands-on Individual Contributor role reporting to our Chief Product and Design Officer and working from our downtown San Francisco office 2-3 days/week.

What You'll Work On

  • AI inside the product. Think automated alerts that tell a marketer what needs attention before they ask, and interfaces where customers can shape their own views and pages through natural language. Designing for a system that surfaces things unprompted is a genuinely open problem, and it's yours.
  • Incrementality. Making causal measurement — the hardest thing in marketing analytics — feel obvious to someone who isn't a statistician.
  • Actionable Data Insights. Designing coherent experiences across our web app, mobile, email, and the integrations that push our data into our customers' own tools and workflows.
  • The core data platform. Complex, data-heavy interfaces that stay elegant as we add new capabilities for our customers

Your Impact

  • Develop and advocate for a UX/UI vision for Northbeam, and understand what it costs to build.
  • Engage directly with customers, then translate what you learn into requirements and designs with product and engineering.
  • Move from early thinking to shipped work: flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity design — validating assumptions and refining as you go.
  • Distill complex data models and workflows into designs and presentations that land with customers and executives alike.
  • Mentor other designers and partner closely with our brand and marketing team.

What You Bring

  • 12+ years of product design experience, with deep B2B SaaS and enterprise work.
  • Equal strength in interaction design and visual design. This is not a role where one covers for the other. Your portfolio needs to show rigorous UX thinking — flows, wires, early exploration, the reasoning behind decisions — and finished work that looks genuinely good.
  • Real experience with complex, data-dense interfaces.
  • Experience leading from vision to design execution.
  • Expert command of Figma and adjacent design tools.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including giving and receiving critique.

Nice to Have

  • Marketing, advertising, or eCommerce domain experience.
  • A background that brings craft and playfulness to utility software — game design, motion, entertainment, or a formal art/design education.
  • Storyboarding, participatory design, or other methods for driving end-to-end vision.
Base Salary Range$270,000—$315,000 USD

Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and location.

In addition to your base salary, we offer an equity package, comprehensive healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), and a 401(k) plan. Our team enjoys a flexible PTO policy, 12 company-paid holidays, and 12 weeks of paid parental leave. We also provide a $500 work-from-home stipend to support your remote setup.

Interview Process
The interview process varies by role but typically begins with a 30-minute interview with a Northbeam recruiter, followed by a video interview with the hiring manager. Next, candidates complete a role-specific video interview followed by video or onsite interviews with several team members. The final step is a video interview with our CEO/Co-founder. The entire interview process is usually 5-7 interviews total and requires around 5-8 hours of your time.

We accept applications on an ongoing basis.
