Raytheon is seeking a Senior Principal Component Engineer to join the Parts, Libraries and Obsolescence (PLO) Department, primarily supporting programs in the Boston, MA area.

This is a remote based position.

The selected candidate will actively lead in the performance of Components Engineering and Applications Engineering tasks supporting airborne, ground, and tactical platforms/programs in the proposal, Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), production and support phases. This includes aiding in developing and executing Programs' Parts Management Plans and parts procurement strategies in accordance with company command media, Program Directives and the customer Statement of Work (SOW). It will also include performing verification and validation of program parts lists to ensure compliance with part selection, standardization, documentation, and qualification requirements.

This position will require day-to-day interface with designers, suppliers, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Parts Obsolescence Lead/Managers (POL), Product Development Engineers (PDE), Electronic Computer Aided Design (ECAD), Program Management Office (PMO), and other disciplines.  This role also entails supporting components approval through a Parts and Materials Control Board (PMCB) comprised of members both internal to Raytheon and from customer organizations.  On occasion, you will be tasked to use your knowledge of failure mechanisms and effects to aid in the root cause/corrective action determinations of device/subassembly component related failures.  Some travel to integration sites, customer facilities, and subcontractor facilities may be required.

What You Will Do

  • Understand program requirements and SOWs to determine program component environmental / characteristic application requirements.

  • Provide technology insertion and parts selection/standardization guidance while adhering to business, component parametric, application environmental and circuit application constraints.

  • Generate and revise component drawings and associated verification data packages.

  • Review of electronic component and assembly reliability and construction data, and preparation of such data as to facilitate PMCB review and adjudication.

  • Perform alternate part investigations and generate comparison matrices showing the differences and similarities of the parts.

  • Interface with multiple internal stakeholders and external suppliers/manufacturers to develop component risk and verification delineation.

  • Facilitate component selection and libraries application through the coordination and generation of the program Bill of Material (BOM) in a collaboration toolset.
    Present component standardization, design library, obsolescence management and termination finish risk results in support of design reviews for a program.


Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience with any combination of the following:

  • Experience with all major electrical component commodities - integrated circuits, semiconductors, passive, and RF devices.

  • Knowledge of component selection, screening, qualification, and derating for use in military and aerospace flight applications.

  • Knowledge of Military component drawings, standards, test specifications, and associated Qualified Manufacturers and Product Lists

  • Experience with the development of associated component drawings and the judgment/determination of part applications to meet program/project objectives and requirements.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other related science or engineering discipline

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with project or task management.

  • Experience with root cause corrective action (RCCA).

  • Knowledge of component reliability process monitors and/or qualification methodologies.

  • Knowledge of circuit card and PWB manufacturing processes.

  • Knowledge of component failure modes by commodity.
    Experience with BOM development and management for developmental and production programs.

  • Experience with the use or adaptation of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products in a military system.

  • Experience with interconnect devices.

  • Experience with counterfeit part mitigation, including working with Non-Franchised Distributors (NFDs).

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
